We are seeking a R&D Computer Science

We are seeking a potential candidate to lead our Software development team\. Team members work directly with our Government customer and contractors to address application or test issues, as well as other Sandia staff located in Livermore, CA\.

We are looking for a candidate with strong software design and development skills; someone with experience leading teams; an individual who has the ability to think broadly and deeply in the design and implementation of application design features; and a candidate with strong communication skills to meet a national security mission\. Our work is guided by industry best practices\. We embrace agile development \(specifically scrum practices\)\.

On any given day, you may:

+ Lead and participate in scrum planning meetings, daily stand\-ups, sprint and iteration demos\.
+ Oversee and develop new capabilities through Engineering Approaches, Systems Engineering and subsequent Software Development\.
+ Team and lead with other computer scientists, engineers or solutions architects to identify and implement solutions to software issues with our current software application\.
+ Team and communicate with I&T team members to understand new software capabilities and assist in regression suite development\.
+ Interface directly with Government customers and/or end users to address/capture their needs\.
+ Provide customer support by helping users with how to use the application, troubleshooting issues, or identifying/fixing critical defects\.
+ Engage with solution architects to update the existing roadmap to accommodate new application features within the IT environment\.
+ Forecast software development and deployment schedules; assist in the development of customer cost estimates\.
+ Learn a new skill via mentoring, self\-study, or formal training courses\.

Required:

+ Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Mathematics or other relevant discipline plus 5 or more years of experience; or a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Mathematics or other relevant discipline plus 8 or more years of experience in software development\.
+ Experience with object\-oriented software development \(e\.g\., C\+\+ or Java\), application frameworks for Java \(e\.g\., Spring\), and message oriented rule\-based routing \(e\.g\., Apache Camel\)\.
+ Experience in distributed system architectures, SOAP/REST web services, Oracle and PL/SQL databases, distributed version control \(e\.g\. Git and Mercurial\), and the Linux operating system\.
+ Active DOE/DOD Q\-Level \(or equivalent\) security clearance\.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an SCI access\.

Desired:

+ Experience with software Systems Engineering approaches leading to software development\.
+ Experience interfacing with Government customers and/or contractors\.
+ Strong partnership skills and effective oral and written communication skills\.
+ Current SCI access\.
+ Experience in software design, engineering, and development, including modern software development and design patterns\.
+ Experience with Jenkins continuous integration and continuous delivery and development approaches\.
+ Experience, skills and familiarity with Agile development methodologies, practices, and tools\.
+ Demonstrated ability to lead teams\.

Department Description:

SMP Technology Exploration \(Department 6351\) conducts program development activities for Systems Mission Engineering\. We focus on applied research and tailored solutions to solve real\-world technology problems for IC and DoD customers\. The department's current focus is on emergent integrated sensing and communication systems supporting critical missions\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance to start\.
