Are you passionate about working with an array of materials characterization equipment and collaborating with world-class specialists in the field of brittle materials mechanics? If so check us out! We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Materials Scientist to perform groundbreaking research on materials and components for national security applications.

Researchers in our group employ a cross-disciplinary and collaborative approach to activities such as:

1. Designing and performing laboratory experiments on brittle materials and components

2. Developing and implementing analytical and post-processing tools for fundamental discovery and materials characterization

3. Authoring peer-reviewed publications on scientific findings

4. Collaborating with design engineers on appropriate materials, designs, specifications, and testing methodologies for applied problems, and (5) developing experiments for model and simulation input, calibration, and validation.

As a member of the technical staff at Sandia, you will have the opportunity to work with science and engineering leaders in the area, in a state-of-the art facility. The position involves a range of efforts from research into the structural behavior and mechanics of brittle materials (glasses, glass-ceramics, and ceramics) to assisting with component development and providing subject matter expertise to engineering personnel. The ability to handle customer relationships and meet deliverables on a strict product schedule are critical skills for this position. You'll have access to state-of-the art equipment and technology for brittle materials characterization and lab-scale production, such as a multi-temperature tube furnace, mechanical load frames, dilatometers, dynamic mechanical analyzer, and hot-press. Within the materials, physical, and chemical science center, you will also have access to world specialists and state of the art tools consistent with Sandias reputation as a world-leading research organization.

Required:
