Do you want to join a dynamic team that helps tackle some of the most challenging issues facing our nations security? If so, you could be the Protocol Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will serve as an executive protocol professional, a resource for administering the proper protocol for international, U.S. government, and diplomatic meetings/events sponsored by SNL. Oversee the planning, organizing and handling pertaining to Dignitary/Distinguished Visitors (DV) visits and widely attended executive level events, and business meeting hosted by SNL executive offices. Provide analyses of event planning policies and regulations to SNL employees as directed by SNL and U.S. government. Interact with high-level staff from U.S. government agencies, congress, dignitaries, industry, the military, and with distinguished professionals.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

+ Develop itineraries and agendas for distinguished foreign & domestic visits and widely attended special events.
+ Research customs and courtesies between different culture.
+ Be educated and knowledgeable in precedence, titles and forms of address, flag etiquette and business etiquette.
+ Model polite and professional behavior with diplomacy and cultural consideration.
+ Coordinate with internal departments to identify security risks and create safety plans.
+ Create and send invitations as appropriate.
+ Prepare, create, manage registrations sites and correspond with attendees for information accuracy.
+ Prepare, create, recommend suitable seating arrangements.
+ Responsible for requesting, negotiating and receiving bids, selecting contractors and managing many different types of vendors and services, including hotel venues, caterers, photographers, florists, musicians, etc, based on the needs of DV visits or business meetings.
+ Request funding sources, manage budget, prepare and record financial reports and accountability thru proper procedures.
+ Perform other duties and tasks in support of event management such as but not limited to escort, coordinating badging, security clearance and transportation.
+ Must have the ability to work long hours and days as needed to accomplish task and deadlines.


A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline plus entry level experience (up to two years); or master's degree in a relevant discipline; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.


+ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suites to specifically, Word, Excel and database management, proficiency in PowerPoint/graphics.
+ Able to perform the duties based on physical requirements/work environment.
+ Knowledge of food and beverage industry.

Department Description:

Executive Protocol Department reports directly to the executive office of Sandias laboratories director and deputy laboratories director. Additionally, we also support the ten associate labs directors with their dignitary/distinguished visit. We pride ourselves in facilitating the visitors experience to be productive and ensure we represent the best of what Sandia has to offer, while simultaneously working behind the scenes for a seamless execution of the agenda. Days can be intense and long but gratifying when shareholders come together to work towards a unified objective.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
