Professor - Joint Position within ME & MSE

Location: Clemson University

The College of Engineering Computing and Applied Sciences at Clemson University (http://www.clemson.edu/cecas/) is seeking outstanding candidates for a faculty position at the rank of Full Professor. Outstanding candidates at the level of Associate Professor will also be considered. The position will be a joint position between Mechanical Engineering (ME) (https://www.clemson.edu/cecas/departments/me/index.html) and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) (https://www.clemson.edu/cecas/departments/mse/index.html)

Candidates with expertise at the interface between materials and solid mechanics are encouraged to apply. Based on current expertise in the two departments and the desire to recruit faculty members with complementary expertise, candidate with expertise in one or both of the following two areas are of particular interest: (a) data science driven advanced materials design and manufacturing; and (b) simulation and/or characterization of materials at relevant length and time scales. The two departments, and the College are committed to high impact interdisciplinary research to address the most significant engineering challenges.

The ME Department has 33 and MSE Department 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members actively involved in research, teaching, and service endeavors. The ME and MSE Departments respectively have 1030 and 110 undergraduates and 200 and 70 graduate students. The two Departments have excellent facilities and infrastructure for research and education. The faculty of the two Departments extensively collaborate with each other and with programs across the campus and with colleagues nationally and internationally. The University is home to several Innovation Campuses providing outstanding facilities for interdisciplinary collaborations (http://www.clemson.edu/research/innovation/campuses.html). In addition, there are several interdisciplinary research Centers. Of particular interest for this position is the Center for Advanced Manufacturing (https://clemsoncam.com/#CONTACT) and Clemson's Palmetto Cluster for high performance computing which is ranked 4th among the public academic institutions in the US on Top500 list (https://www.palmetto.clemson.edu/palmetto/)

The campus is located between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC in the upstate of South Carolina


QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in ME, MSE or a related discipline, have demonstrated a record of prior research accomplishments and shown the potential to educate and mentor students. Successful candidates will be expected to establish vigorous, high quality research program including interdisciplinary collaborations, attract significant external funding, and be able to collaborate with current faculty both within ME and MSE and the University as a whole. In addition, the candidates must demonstrate the potential to teach both at the undergraduate and graduate level in both ME and MSE.
