Are you passionate about experimental research related to the synthesis of nanoporous catalytic materials? Do you dream about utilizing state\-of\-the\-art facilities for materials growth, fabrication and measurements? If so, consider applying for this Postdoctoral Appointee opportunity which focuses on understanding the fundamentals of nanoporous materials synthesis and characterization, materials durability, and gas sorption/desorption\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work closely with co\-PIs performing molecular design of active catalytic sites in porous materials
+ Partner with others in the group while acting with self\-motivation
+ Provide leadership for portions of the work as needed
+ Collaborate with available R&D capabilities and expertise with partner organizations such as the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies \(CINT\)
+ Support research and development activities including: nanoporous materials \(including zeolites, MOFs and amorphous silica materials\) synthesis; membrane growth and characterization; analytical methods including TEM, SEM, BET and X\-ray diffraction; and gas sorption/desorption


+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in a discipline related to experimental chemistry, materials science, nuclear materials, solid\-state physics, or chemical engineering
+ Good communication skills as evidenced by a record of publication of results in peer\-reviewed journals and external presentations at scientific conferences


+ Experience with the synthesis of nanoporous membrane materials
+ Experience electron microscopies \(e\.g\., HRTEM, SEM\), BET and X\-ray diffraction, and/or physical analytical methods \(e\.g\., chemical analysis \(ICP\-MS\), UV\-vis, FTIR\)
+ Active DoE clearance

Department Description:

The Nanoscale Sciences Department conducts collaborative leading\-edge research that advances the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enables the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions\. Our research activities have broad impact; and typically generate peer\-reviewed, high\-profile journal publications and presentations at professional scientific meetings\. Our main research focus is directed along three thrusts:

99. Electrochemical Materials Science and Applications \(including energy storage and corrosion\)
99. Magnetic, Dielectric and Electronic Materials Science and Applications \(including ferroics and composites\)
99. Nanostructured Materials Science and Applications \(i\.e\., for hazardous materials capture/storage, sensing, membranes, water treatment, and catalysis\)

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.

This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years\. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment\.

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
