Are you passionate about experimental electrochemical materials science research and development? If so, consider applying for this Postdoctoral Appointee role where you will have the opportunity to investigate the electrical properties of the metal\-organic frameworks and zeolites for gas sensor applications\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Collaborate with accomplished scientists and use industry\-leading equipment and facilities
+ Analyze the electrical properties of various nanoporous materials \(MOFs, zeolites, oxides\) as a function of gas sorption
+ Use insights from electrical property measurements to build and test sensors for selective gas detection
+ Evaluate changes in nanoporous material structure and chemistry and relating these changes to observed electrical properties
+ Demonstrate leadership, partnership and self\-motivation within a collaborative environment
+ Contribute to publication and presentation of scientific findings

Required:

+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in a chemistry, materials, physics or engineering\-related field
+ Experience in field\(s\) relevant to electrochemical materials science

Desired:

+ Experience performing and evaluating AC & DC electrical measurements to elucidate different transport mechanisms
+ Experience with structural and chemical measurements \(e\.g\. electron microscopies, x\-ray diffraction, FT\-IR, etc\.\)
+ Experience making thin films through various methods such as spin coating, drop casting, dip coating, etc\.
+ Ability to develop and maintain collaboration with leaders in the scientific community
+ Curiosity about the world and a strong interest in connecting one's research to the larger context of science, society, and national security
+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills that cultivate effective scientific collaborations with a diverse population of researchers
+ Creative problem\-solving abilities and effective time management skills
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE clearance

Department Description:

The Nanoscale Sciences Department conducts collaborative leading\-edge research that advances the understanding of materials at the nanoscale and enables the collaborative development of creative solutions for Sandia's broad and evolving National Security and Energy Missions\. Our research activities have broad impact; and typically generate peer\-reviewed, high\-profile journal publications and presentations at professional scientific meetings\. Our main research focus is directed along three thrusts:

99. Electrochemical Materials Science and Applications \(including energy storage and corrosion\)
99. Magnetic, Dielectric and Electronic Materials Science and Applications \(including ferroics and composites\)
99. Nanostructured Materials Science and Applications \(i\.e\., for hazardous materials capture/storage, sensing, membranes, water treatment, and catalysis\)

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\)\-granted L\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L\-level security clearance, which requires U\.S\. citizenship\.

This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years\. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment\.

Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\.
