Sandia National Laboratories is seeking a Patent Attorney for its Legal Technology Transfer Center. This attorney will provide legal advice and assistance in all matters involving or relating to intellectual property issues, regulations and policies. The selected candidate will counsel on patent preparation and prosecution activities including in-house patent preparation and prosecution. The prosecution will focus on Sandia line organizations researching design of materials and structures for materials engineering, materials aging and reliability, biological sciences, silicon processing and fabrication of compound semiconductors solar cells, infrared focal plane arrays), analog and digital circuits, semiconductor fabrication and packaging, failure analysis techniques, micro fluidics, optical sensing, and ceramics. The successful candidate will also counsel on technology transfer activities, licensing negotiations, cooperative research and development agreements and non-disclosure agreements.

Sandia is seeking a patent attorney with 3 7 years of patent prosecution and licensing experience in high technology areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of patent protection, from reviewing invention disclosures, leading patent review committees, drafting patent applications, reviewing applications prepared by outside counsel, prosecuting patent applications in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), conducting prior art searches, and otherwise supporting technology transfer activities of a major national laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for counseling on licensing activities, negotiations, and contracts.

Required:

+ The successful candidate will have a degree in , chemical engineering, materials science, semiconductor physics or a relevant engineering discipline.
+ This position requires the candidate to have excellent academic qualifications with 3-7 years of law firm and/or in-house experience in intellectual property licensing and patent prosecution.
+ A U.S. law degree from the American Bar Association accredited law school, admission to practice in at least one U.S. state and current registration with the USPTO is required.
+ You must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Masters or PhD level education is preferred.
+ Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills are needed.
+ Candidates should have strong project, and client management skills and a proven track record of success in the patent field.
+ Active DoD or DOE Security Clearance.
