Position Description: Assistant/Associate Professor 

The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering within the School of Computing and Engineering (SCE) at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) is seeking applicants for a tenure/tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering at the Assistant/Associate Professor level (starting in September 2020).  Review of applications begins November 1, 2019. Job ID #31878 seeks applicants with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field whose primary research areas include controls with an emphasis in industrial/manufacturing applications. Preferred Qualifications include 1) undergraduate teaching experience; 2) professionally licensed (FE or PE); 3) excellent communication and interpersonal skills and 4) the ability and desire to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators  Successful candidates will be expected to: ( 1) have a strong commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate engineering education; (2) teach courses in the department's undergraduate and graduate programs; (3) develop and maintain an outstanding record of scholarly activity, including an externally-funded research program; (4) engage in departmental, school, and/or university service activities appropriate to the position; and (5) advance the goals and strategic plan of SCE and UMKC.  Applicants are sought and will be prioritized according to how well they would complement and expand current CME and CSEE research strengths in robotics and controls while engaging with the local manufacturing industry. Successful candidates will be able to teach undergraduate mechanical engineering courses, and should have particular interest in teaching courses in control theory and industrial process control.  The CME Department offers ABET-accredited BS degrees, MS degrees, and participates in UMKC's interdisciplinary PhD program. CME currently has 15 tenured or tenure-track faculty members, supported by nearly 30 teaching and adjunct faculty, approximately 400 undergraduate students, and 60 graduate students. CME's student body has grown by over 30% since 2008, with further increases in enrollment expected for Fall 2020.
