Mechanical Engineer - Facilities Operations (Mid-Career)

We are looking for an energetic individual to join our Facilities Operations team. Our Operations Engineers are responsible for the day to day (immediate) and short-term management of facilitys needs, supporting our facilities team with all building and customer solutions. Our fast paced, National Laboratory setting necessitates that the candidate be comfortable with ambiguity and variability of assignment and embrace the value of being in a service group. We seek a well-rounded individual, adept at problem solving in a variety of settings.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Assess mechanical building systems and site infrastructure issues, conceptualize potential solutions, make recommendations, and develop project plans
+ Perform engineering analysis, calculations, and develop construction drawings and specifications sufficient to define systems for modification
+ Create long-term capital improvement plans and develop work packages for building and site mechanical systems
+ Provide technical direction, studies and analysis for mechanical systems and provide technical guidance for operations, energy efficiency, conservation, and optimization
+ Review plans for mechanical modifications and improving cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction
+ Review and enhance preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical system assets
Required:
+ Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering plus minimum 5 years of relevant experience or Masters degree in mechanical engineering plus 1 or more years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of related education and experience
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Desired:
+ Masters degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
+ Professional Engineer license (PE) in the State of California or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire
+ Proven knowledge / experience in facilities design, construction, and O&M industry best practices and standards
+ Detailed knowledge of HVAC industry and ability to produce specifications for bid purposes
+ Ability to think critically and make decisions requiring engineering judgment
+ Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion
+ Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks simultaneously
+ Proven ability to interact effectively at all levels of the organization with both internal and external customers
+ PMP certification from the Project Management Institute or demonstrated ability to manage projects from concept through design and construction
+ In-depth knowledge and experience with California Building Codes (CBC)
+ In-depth knowledge of California Green Building Standards (CALGreen)
+ Experience with sustainable design and acquiring Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification
+ Excellent oral and written communications skills and presentation skills
+ Experience with AutoCAD or similar drawing software
+ Experience in the tech industry, government laboratories, and/or federal agencies
Department Description:
The Customer Operations Department is responsible for providing Operational, Systems, and Maintenance Engineering solutions and support throughout the CA site with intentional alignment to Mission Areas and Site Planning. The team provides customer advocacy and coordination between the facilities departments to facilitate solutions to customer issues and concerns.

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
