Position Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and testing precision automated test, inspect, and packaging machines used globally for small to micro-sized parts; including electronic wafers/dies, semi-conductors, micro-moldings, and micro-stampings. Analyzing and meeting the needs of customers; creating systems, and sub-systems to meet and exceed customer specifications and global certification requirements is imperative.


Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Design new or redesign existing products including specification review, development program timelines and reports, design reviews, documentation packages, pre-production builds and transfer to production on various automated and semi-automated machines. Develop and validate modular, well-documented designs required to implement the same.
  • Integrate various sub-systems such as high definition vision inspection, ink or laser marking, robotic path motions and electrical testers to develop a single cohesive solution.
  • Test and modify existing systems, identify, understand and troubleshoot operational and functional issues providing resolution in a timely manner.
  • Resolve operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases. Generate detailed specifications, functional requirements, test plans, protocols, and procedures.
  • Interpret requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget.
  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design.
  • Define equipment and components from external suppliers in collaboration with purchasing team.
  • Support manufacture, build and validation of systems which include pneumatics, communication networks, touchscreens, pushbuttons and robotic integration assisting with equipment power up, testing, and debugging of equipment.
  • Assist with controls engineering and field service support, traveling to customer sites as needed, working with all levels of customer personnel, training internal and external customers on using and maintaining systems.
  • Investigate ways to reduce equipment costs and/or enhance equipment performance using value engineering concepts.
  • Collaborate with all departments to continually improve and update systems and design process improvements.
  • Attend trade shows and customer-site visits as scheduled, learn and support new products and technologies



  • Minimum 4-year bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial motion control and systems environment; preferably in the semiconductor industry
    • Experience in process control and automation with exposure to robotics and vision guided systems controls
    • Strong mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals
    • Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills and ability to visualize a process or system from concept to development
    • Results-oriented and innovative with excellent organization skills, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure with deadlines
    • Self –directed with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
    • Proactive communication skills across a variety of mediums in a collaborative manner across multiple office locationsincluding situations where work is fast-paced and deadline-oriented
    • Proficiency in standard software applications including MS Office, project management software and web-based meetings/communication software
    • Design experience using Dassault Systémes SolidWorks®
    • Compliance experience with CE, SEMI, and other standards organizations is desirable, but not necessary


Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
