On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Primarily oversees non-exempt and entry-level exempt members of the workforce within the team.
+ Coordinates subordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, work assignments, recognition and disciplinary actions, and contributes to performance assessments.
+ Ensures that customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, project plans, budgets, structures, schedules, and staffing requirements.
+ May contribute to the acquisition and development of staff resources, capabilities, and existing and future projects.


+ Bachelors degree in relevant field of study, plus five (5) or more years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q- Level security clearance.


+ Applies specialized knowledge and experience to independently judge work quality, performance, and alignment of results with customer expectations.
+ Works with the organization's manager on hiring, professional development, and assessment and performance management, consistent with the mission of the organization.
+ Ensures that customer needs are satisfied through the creation of trust-based relationships.
+ Responsible for direct supervision of protective force and emergency response functions under the general guidance of management.
+ Maintains overall responsibility for directing and coordinating security & emergency response incidents at Sandia National Laboratories facilities when the Shift Captain is unavailable.
+ Develops and implements policies and procedures and monitors the effectiveness and performance of security forces, where directly related to the armed protection of the site, at the direction of protective force management.
+ Performs additional support duties including logistics, supply, and training activities, as assigned by protective force management.
+ Partners with line organizations in support of projects and collaborative procedures for safety and responses.
+ Ability to model behaviors that reflect SNL's core values.
+ Expertise and proficiencies appropriate to the team.
+ Demonstrated knowledge in department roles.
+ Knowledge and demonstrated characteristics of SNLs Full Spectrum Leadership model.
+ Successfully manage and complete multiple programs and projects.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
+ Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external customers, including the ability to build and manage effective working relationships.
+ Demonstrated ability to deliver results, effectively manage people, and guide multidisciplinary teams.
+ Ability to mentor employees on work tasks and organizational requirements.
+ Knowledge of technical business development (may only apply to certain organizations).
+ Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks and work with sensitive information and classified matter.
+ Experience working with firearms and ammunition.

Department Description:

The Safeguards and Security Protective Force Department at Sandia National Laboratories, New Mexico (SNL/NM) is responsible for the Protection of resources, including Special Nuclear Material (SNM), Classified Matter, personnel, locks, keys and combination control.The Protective Force department is also responsible for emergency response assistance and basic law enforcement activities at SNL/NM.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
