Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Lightweight and Multifunctional Materials within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The successful applicant will be research-focused and be required to undertake high quality research in the general areas of mechanics of lightweight and multifunctional materials and structures, researcher supervision and teaching in an area or areas compatible with the interests and activities of the department.

The University of Auckland is New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led University. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Engineering, with approximately 30 academic staff, 600 undergraduates and 140 postgraduate students. We provide BE (Hons) degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, together with a range of postgraduate taught courses.

We offer a diverse and active community for research at and above postgraduate level, and we are proud of our strong international reputation for the quality of our research outputs. Our research activities concern mechanics of materials, composites, smart manufacturing, acoustics, mechatronics, dynamics, control, industrial automation, micro-systems and smart materials, medical devices and rehabilitation robotics, and thermofluids. We have collaborative links with research groups and industry within New Zealand and across the world.

You will work as part of the Mechanics of Materials group within Mechanical Engineering, and the Faculty of Engineering's multi-disciplinary Centre for Advanced Composite Materials. You will also be required to develop research collaborations with researchers both within and outside the group and attract research funding, nationally and/or internationally. You will contribute to our taught programmes in areas relevant to your specialisation. You will be committed to the development and delivery of curricula and courses and have excellent communication skills. You will also contribute to the wider activities of the relevant research and teaching groups and perform service roles for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

You will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area, together with post-doctoral research, teaching and/ or industrial experience. You will also have a demonstrated ability to conduct research, have supervised, or intend to supervise, postgraduate students, and a strong track record of published research.
