We are seeking an enthusiastic year-round graduate student to assist staff in designing, modeling, and testing novel components and systems being investigated and developed at Sandia for emerging concentrating solar power technologies.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Assist with modeling, testing and analysis of concentrating solar power technologies (CSP). Testing may include the evaluation of CSP technologies such as high-temperature receivers, collectors, and thermal storage systems. Analyses of relevant processes (heat and mass transfer) for these tests will be performed using 3D computational models (Solidworks Simulation, ANSYS FLUENT) and analytical models (e.g., MATLAB).
+ Assist with documentation and archiving activities relating to new or existing publications generated by the team or in the program library.
+ Assist with the general operations and administrative duties of the department when called upon.

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Desired:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Undergraduate degree in engineering or science-related field
+ Courses in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics
+ Previous experience using computer software to design and analyze 3D models of physical systems or components
+ Excellent technical writing skills as demonstrated in progress reports or scientific publication
+ Well-developed communication, oral presentation, and leadership skills
+ Prior experience in Ansys Fluent, Ansys Mechanical, SolidWorks, Engineering Equation Solver, MATLAB, and/or LabVIEW
+ Experience in the design and operation of thermal equipment where hardware is taken through concept generation, design, manufacturing, and testing
+ Experience in bulk solids (particle) handling, heating, and transport
+ Capable of working independently and in a team environment

Security Clearance:
