The Product Realization Technologies department is seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Undergrad to join our team of software engineers to help evolve our application suite to meet ever-changing business needs in mission areas. This is a team of software developers that research new technologies, develop leading edge, innovative software solutions within technology areas such as cloud-based microservice architectures, data analytics and visualization, secure software, and machine learning.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design and develop full stack web applications
+ Develop DevOps pipelines and test automation
+ Create 3D data visualization applications using gaming and augmented/virtual reality technologies
+ Apply machine learning and analytics to large datasets to explore or solve mission needs
+ Work within an Agile software development teams, or individually with a mentor


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Working towards a Bachelors in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline
+ Minimum of 61 undergraduate credit hours in relevant degree program
+ Educational or work experience developing software using Java, C++, Python, or C#
+ Educational or work experience in software design, data structures, or machine learning
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE security clearance


+ Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment
+ Critical thinking, synthesis and problem-solving; ability to deal with ambiguity and adapt to a fast-paced, customer-focused operation, teaming and self-starting
+ Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0

Department Description:

The Product Realization Technologies department (9513) has a mission to deliver next generation information systems based on emerging technologies that can easily adapt to changing business needs. We architect, design and develop software solutions that solve complex business problems across Sandia and the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE). This is a team of enterprise architects and software engineers that research new technologies, create vision and roadmaps, and develop leading edge, innovative software solutions within technology areas such as service-oriented and micro-services architectures, big data problem space, data and compute virtualization, enterprise security, mobile computing, and business intelligence.

Security Clearance:
