We are seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Undergrad
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Evaluation of microstructure and properties of additively manufactured materials
+ Contribute to failure analysis investigations
Required:
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship
Additional Requirements:
+ Pursuing a degree in material science and engineering or a related discipline relevant to the job description requirements
Desired:
+ Materials science laboratory experience
+ Microstructural characterization skills, such as metallography, optical and electron microscopy
+ Work with powder metallurgy or additive manufacturing
+ Experience using image analysis software
Department Description:
The Metallurgy and Materials Joining Department is the principal organization for metallurgical and joining research and engineering support throughout the Laboratories. Expertise covers a broad range of experimental and predictive capabilities that apply fundamental process, physical and mechanical metallurgy principles. Specific technical areas include welding and soldering, special brazing and diffusion bonding, and mechanical behavior. The scientific focus is on materials structures, properties, performance and reliability. Staff supports a variety of national security programs and is highly engaged in providing collaborative, innovative materials science and systems-based engineering solutions.
