The ISR Electromagnetics and Sensor Technologies Department is seeking a motivated student intern having a background in RF, microwave, radar and/or antenna design to participate in the development of advanced sensor concepts in support of a broad range of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and other programs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Participate in the modeling, design, and development of radar systems, including passive and active RF and antenna structures
+ Apply basic understanding of RF/microwave design principles, theories, concepts, and practices
+ Apply previous experience in modeling and simulation tools used in support of RF/microwave circuit and/or antenna design and analysis activities
+ Participate in numerical modeling and experimental testing of developmental designs
+ Work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment


You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Additional Requirements:

+ Senior-level or graduate coursework in electrical engineering with an emphasis in electromagnetic (EM) analysis, radar system modeling/signal processing, RF/microwave/mixed-signal circuit design, and/or antenna design
+ Experience with commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation, antenna design, and/or full-wave EM analysis tools such as HFSS, ADS, CST, Momentum, Genesys, FEKO, IE3D, SENTRi, etc
+ Familiarity with the use of RF/microwave test equipment (network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generator, etc.) and/or in antenna measurement techniques (compact range, near-field scanner, etc.)
+ Experience with MATLAB, as well as other programming languages (C/C++, C#, Java, Fortran, Python, VB script, Julia, etc.)
+ Ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment.The selected candidate will work closely with RF, radar system, and antenna engineers both within and outside of the organization
+ Excellent communication and documentation skills
+ Ability to obtain a DOE L clearance


+ Experience with design, fabrication, and testing of one or more of the following: printed antennas, conformal antennas, software-defined radios, RF components, etc
+ Experience with RF circuit layout and RF PCB manufacturing techniques
+ Experience in radar system development and/or radar hardware architecture

Department Description:

SAR Sensor Technologies Department supports project and R&D initiatives for a variety of customers with analysis, design, development, and test capabilities in the areas of RF electronic subsystems, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), and antennas. In fulfilling this mission, the department also operates a compact-range antenna and radar-cross-section (RCS) measurement facility in Building 9972 at the Coyote Test Facility (CTF) on KAFB.
