The Inertial Systems and Avionics II Department is looking for an Electrical Engineer who has strong interest in electronics development, subsystem testing, and inertial sensor analysis. The successful candidate will need to become familiar with the organization’s technical expertise in electronics, mechanical, and software development, along with its test experience, all focused towards the delivery of multiple sensor systems. Additionally, the successful candidate will also need to be highly capable of working with a variety of the organization’s internal and external customers.

Required:

+ MS in electrical engineering with 1-2 years of relevant work experience; or a BS in electrical engineering with 5 years of relevant work experience
+ Development experience with power, signal conditioning, and microcontroller electronics
+ Bench level testing/troubleshooting – familiar with test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope)
+ Familiarity with C programming for use in operation of microcontrollers, test equipment
+ Familiarity with Matlab for scripting or adapting to existing tools sets
+ Experience with Altium, DxDesigner, or similar schematic capture software tools
+ Ability to acquire and maintain and DOE Q level security clearance

Desired:

+ Familiarity with emerging FPGA technologies and experience with VHDL
+ Familiarity with Labview for equipment control and monitoring
+ Experience with field testing - flight, drive-around, other event (RF, radiation, acoustic)
+ Interest in customer interaction and leading small teams
+ Experience with inertial sensor analysis

Department Description:

Sandia’s Department 5326 - Inertial Systems and Avionics II develops innovative inertial and electronic subsystems for missiles, air-delivered applications, unattended ground sensor networks, and surrogate test articles for exploratory directed-energy tests. The organization specializes in test and evaluation of inertial sensors along with developing electronic subsystems for data acquisition and algorithm processing. Members of the organization have varying skills that include combined-environment test development, inertial sensor and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) assessment and analysis, digital design (microcontroller and FPGA), firmware and software design, power and signal conditioning, and advanced mechanical design and electro/mechanical fabrication capability. Product development involves requirements capture, modeling, detailed design, fabrication, system integration, testing, and data analysis to ensure all requirements are met.
