We are seeking a driven R&D Electrical Engineer to join our diverse and growing engineering teams. In this exciting and dynamic role, you may be performing a number of engineering functions, from crafting design concepts, to developing/testing actual prototypes, to guiding technology maturation efforts, and qualifying innovative fabrication and assembly techniques. Along with fellow engineers, you will be engaging and collaborating regularly with personnel across multiple Sandia organizations, as well as Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratories, the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), production agencies throughout the NNSA nuclear security enterprise, and Department of Defense organizations.

Required:

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related discipline plus 2 years of related experience or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related discipline, or equivalent: engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
+ Proficiency in mixed-signal design
+ Ability to manage schematics and guide PWB layouts for boards with switching power supplies
+ Precision analog measurements, FPGAs, and digital interfaces
+ Lab testing of electrical components, devices, subsystems and systems
+ Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with internal organizations and external production facilities and suppliers.
+ Ability to travel up to 25%.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.

Desired:

+ Familiarity with hardware testing, power supplies, DMMs, debug problem solving
+ Proficiency in mixed-signal design, being able to manage schematics and guide PWB layouts for boards with switching power supplies, precision analog measurements, FPGAs, and digital interfaces.
+ Lab testing of electrical components, devices, subsystems and systems
+ Proficiency with LTSpice to simulate new or existing circuits
+ Write test plans to validate hardware for initial testing, power up, formal acceptance testing, and calibration testing.
+ Familiarity with hardware testing, power supplies, DMMs, debug problem solving, etc.
+ Work with ECAD to provide layout roles and review designs.
+ Present design to peer reviews.
+ Work with other engineers in the TM group to facilitate next level assembly testing.
+ Perform environmental testing and calibration testing at next level assembly.
+ Support system level data analysis from flight tests.
+ Experience working on engineering design, qualification, production, or related modeling/simulation projects
+ Familiarity with development of specifications for components
+ Tools/Programs: C/C++, SPICE, LTSpice, MATLAB, LabVIEW, ModelSim, HDL, EAGLEPCB, Mentor Graphics, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzers
+ Top-notch verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
+ Ability to thrive in a high-energy, collaborative, team focused environment
+ Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DOD or Federally Funded Research and Development Centers
+ Currently holding an active security clearance; DOE Q or DOD TS

Department Description:

Organization 8434, Telemetry Engineering II - along with sister departments 08432, 08433, 08435 and 08436- has responsibility for the design, development, and qualification of weapon system instrumentation (or telemetry systems) for use in Joint Test Assemblies (JTAs) for the entire US nuclear arsenal. The JTA program is a cornerstone of the Stockpile Evaluation Program and allows critical assessment of the weapon system, DoD platform, and support personnel performance. To fulfill its mission responsibilities, Organization 8434 employs a diverse and talented group of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technologists. The Organization collaborates with other NW groups within Sandia and across the Nuclear Weapons Complex, including NNSA, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the production agencies (National Security Center and Pantex), and the DoD. Organization 0843x is also expected to have significant interactions with other DOE Laboratories and other NNSA entities (beyond the NW Complex), the DoD, and other government agencies.
