Job Summary and Description:

Job Summary:


This is an internship position for a student to support R&D projects related to grid modeling and operation with high levels of inverter based renewable resources. Looking for a student who can work in the 2020 fall (September-December) semester.


Duties & Responsibilities:


The student will support the EPRI team by conducting inverter modeling (grid following and grid forming) and simulation studies using various simulation tools. Expertise with PowerFactory is desirable for this position


Additional Job Information:


  • Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering required
  • 2 years of PhD studies (preferred)


Ideal Candidate:

  • Electrical engineering PhD student with emphasis on power systems
  • Strong experience with wind/solar inverter modeling and simulation projects
  • Familiarity with grid forming inverters will be considered a plus
  • Strong experience with PowerFactory simulation tool
  • Strong experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably PSCAD)
  • Strong experience with electromechanical dynamics simulation tools (preferably PSS/E and PSLF)
  • Strong programming skills (preferably in Python and Matlab)
  • Strong technical writing skills
