We are seeking a highly-motivated person who is passionate about building a safe and healthy work culture to join our dynamic Safety and Health Engineering team as the Engineering Program/Project Lead for the explosive safety program.

The position requires performing high-quality, technically-sound assessment of explosives operations. This role has high visibility with both laboratory wide impact and NNSA/DOE complex impact.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform assessments of a wide variety of explosives operations and activities from R&D laboratory work to field testing.
+ Identify problems and identify potential control strategies to mitigate or control risks.
+ Incorporate corporate explosives safety program specifications, standards, and procedures.
+ Collaborate with other highly-trained professionals across the occupational safety and health disciplines and line management to ensure proper work hazard evaluation and control.
+ Travel to remote sites occasionally unplanned.

In this role, you will have responsibility for explosives safety sites. This may include but is not limited to Sandia NM, Sandia CA, Tonopah Test Range, Kauai Launch Complex, and other remote locations.

Required:

+ Bachelor of Science (BS) in engineering or similar discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or a masters degree (MS) in engineering or similar discipline and a minimum 8 years of explosives safety experience.
+ Advanced knowledge of Explosives Safety regulations and drivers.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE-Q-level security clearance.

This position requires occasionally working a modified work schedule, travel, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Desired:

+ Advanced knowledge of explosives site planning of explosives storage operations/storage facilities and intentional detonation sites, including but not limited to:

- Advanced knowledge of Assessment for Hazard Surveys (ASHS).
- Advanced knowledge of Explosives Safety Siting (ESS).
- Performing explosives Quantity Distance (QD) criteria assessments.
- Advanced knowledge of explosives storage criteria.
- Determining hazard classification and compatibility groups.
- Determining explosive effects and permissible exposures.
- Determining personnel protection and lightning protection.
+ Experience in the application and use of explosive safety techniques and practices in Research & Development (R&D) environments.
+ Experience in compliance with electrical safety, particularly as applied to explosive operations.
+ Currently qualified for explosive operations.
+ Knowledge of Safety Assessment for Explosives Risk (SAFER).
+ Working knowledge of EIS/Oracle.
+ Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
+ Working knowledge in one or more of the following areas: electrical safety, ergonomics, explosive safety, hazardous energy control (lockout tagout), pressure safety, construction safety, firearms safety, traffic safety and aviation safety, cranes, rigging, fall protection, industrial hygiene, radiation protection.
+ Experience as a classroom instructor.
+ Experience with conducting readiness reviews.
+ Ability to provide service to a diverse set of customers in a fast-paced, critical deadline, cooperative
+ teaming atmosphere.
+ Excellent communication skills.
+ Current DOE L-level or Q-level security clearance.

Security Clearance:
