This capability will enable a new class of diagnostic measurements for fusion plasmas and enable fusion/fission experiments. Opportunities also exist to develop unique diagnostics & measurement techniques! This work supports the Z machine, the world’s largest pulsed power generator and one of the nation’s three major High Energy Density physics facilities.

On any given day, you may:

+ Develop advanced capabilities to couple tritium to pulsed-power-driven inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments.
+ Collaborate with the dynamic Z Facility Teams to implement new technologies to push tritium inventories higher and reduced contamination.
+ Develop and support novel diagnostic instruments and measurement techniques to mature the understanding of experiments on the Z facility.
+ Present at international conferences and document your work in peer reviewed journals
+ Travel occasionally (e.g. 3 weeks per year)

+ Bachelor’s degree in science or an engineering field and five years’ experience or a Master's degree in science or an engineering field and two years experience
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-pronged team of experimental and computational scientists, engineers and technologists
+ Experience in developing diagnostics or measurement approaches for High Energy Density physics experiments and/or develop impactful HED experiments
+ Strong publication record
+ History of multi-institution collaborations
