You could be the highly motivated individual to join the Pulsed Power Sciences Center to enable multi-disciplinary cross-organizational engagement and management of experiments and experimental capabilities/facilities. You will guide and/or support development of technical and operational strategic investments necessary for enabling high-quality, safe, and secure work planning and execution of highly hazardous scientific work, including significant activity-level work. You will report directly to the Senior Manager of the Z Experimental Capability Management Group, who is also the Program/Center-Wide Safety Manager and be a member of the Centers Conduct of Operations Team. Coordination of work across teams managed by the Senior Manager and the broader experimental community requires analyses, design, oversight, evaluation and improvement of policies and processes. This will include innovative technical system solutions for Program/Center-wide research, development and operations. You will be key in creating needed management and procedural documentation and internal and external communications that convey common expectations and requirements for managing experimental activities and capabilities, especially with the Z Machine, and for contributing to complex systems and systems-of-systems analytical frameworks, anticipatory system solutions and improvements, and decision frameworks for enabling challenging multi-faceted decisions with constrained resources.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Guide and/or help with activities that evaluate experimental and facility management needs.
+ Design, improve, and document policies and practices, and facilitate implementation and guidance to help ensure effective operations and maintenance activities.
+ Work closely with the Programs/Centers Management team and a significant number of staff to ensure that technical solutions and policies and process enable efficient and effective operations and clearly communicate expectations and requirements to all Members of the Workforce.

Required:

+ Bachelors degree in a relevant STEM discipline plus ten or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience (relevant disciplines in science, technology, engineering, and math).
+ Experience leading the technical analysis and/or policy and process management of a complex system or program
+ Obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level Security Clearance

Desired:

+ Experience performing systems engineering and project management activities for work/projects of significant size and national impact.
+ Knowledge of Pulsed Power Sciences Center operations, and strong background and experience demonstrating ability to apply technical judgement for experiment planning and execution, all aspects of safety (e.g., Hazard Analyses, Electrical Safety, Work Planning & Controls, Lockout/Tagout), generating system requirements, top-level functional designs with requirement flow-down, interface definitions, and implementation oversight
+ Demonstrated ability to work and lead various subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure scientific and regulatory requirements are fully addressed.
+ Demonstrated ability to work with a varied group of partners including those responsible for strategies, overall management practices, and day-to-day operations.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
+ Experience collaborating with internal and external organizations and creating trust-based relationships.

Department Description:

The Pulsed Power Sciences Center (1600) is accountable for advancing the understanding, development, and application of pulsed power for the missions of the nuclear weapon program. The Center also utilizes its major experimental, theoretical, and computational capabilities to meet the national security and fundamental science needs of numerous Sandia and external customers. Center 1600 is Sandias home base organization for research on High Energy Density Physics (HEDP), Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF), Advanced Radiography, Pulsed Power Science and Technology, and Fusion Technologies. The Center operates several major facilities, including the Z-Machine, Z-Backlighter (ZBL), THOR, Mykonos, STAR, Centipede Pulser, and the DICE Facility. The Center focuses heavily on electrical safety, laser operations, pressure systems, industrial hygiene, radiation protection, and beryllium protection in planning and executing experiments.

Security Clearance:
