The Senior Executive Relationship Manager is directly responsible for leading the acquiring, business development and client management efforts for our top partners: North American merchant Acquirer relationships, including large banks (i.e. JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Elavon) and the largest non-bank acquirer/processors (i.e Global/TSYS, WorldPay/FIS, First Data/Fiserv) larger, strategic and more complex merchants clients.

These efforts include identifying opportunities to maximize transaction volume growth and market-share improvement; maximizing coverage, capability and ensure consistent implementation of the MAP-Merchant Acquiring Program; helping to identify and executing on strategic initiatives and marketing programs in support of initiatives to broaden the U.S. acceptance footprint; and Lead communications and projects for implementation of annual release management initiatives, operational improvements and enhancements.

This individual also serves as an internal resource and subject matter expert for the assigned portfolio (assigned acquirers, acquirer's portfolio and overall acquiring industry) and may manage people directly or indirectly. ensure execution of projects with department wide impact.

*The ideal candidate is located in Atlanta (GA), but other remote employees will be considered.


  • Serve as the strategic liaison between Discover Global Network (Discover Network, PULSE, DCI and Discover Card) and assigned partner(s) by maintaining relationships with decision-makers across all divisions of the assigned partner.
  • Work with partner(s) and internal business partners to identify, develop and implement new business partnership opportunities.
  • Ensure partners maintain acceptance and product offerings.
  • Present and execute marketing and promotional initiatives to increase transactions, grow market-share and improve merchant stated awareness.
  • Collaborate across multiple internal business units including Marketing, Operations, Product, Finance, Digital and Legal teams.
  • Implement and support operational initiatives and ensure full compliance with Discover Network's Change Release process, compliance and business practices.
  • Leverage industry knowledge and experience to drive sales, accelerate business results and build and win new acceptance.
  • Achieve the account objectives by implementing account plans and using account management and tracking.
  • Manage staff directly or indirectly. Leverage knowledge, insights and experience to provide leadership, coaching and guidance to others.
  • Ability to travel 50%

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in Business Development, Sales, Relationship Management, Strategy, or related field
  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience in Business Development, Sales, Relationship Management, Strategy, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or related field
  • Exceptional relationship management and consultative sales skills and proven experience building deep and influential relationships with key stake holders, executive level clients and internal business partners.
  • Broad payments industry experience and knowledgeable about acquiring industry and key business functions: planning, strategy, marketing, finance, operations, etc
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, project management, business analysis, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A proven track record of driving acceptance, growth and engagement by developing and executing acquirer focused sales & business development strategies.
  • Proven ability to produce and deliver influential presentations to senior level audiences (internal & external).
  • Consultative Selling and Win Win Partnership Mindset
  • Ability to work independently in a home office environment
