Are you passionate about your work and want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for our nation's security? If so, you could be the experienced Environmental Technologist we are seeking to join the Environmental Compliance and Monitoring field team.. Join our team! The successful candidate would be expected to provide field team leadership related to environmental sampling, monitoring, and compliance. Environmental field programs would consist of, but not limited to; wastewater, stormwater, surface water discharge, safe drinking water, air quality, terrestrial surveillance, environmental remediation, and environmental releases and cleanup.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead and advise the daily work of technologists, consultants, and contractors supporting environmental compliance and monitoring programs.
+ Direct and perform field activities to include environmental sampling, analyses, calibrations, monitoring equipment troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
+ Investigate, review, study, design and develop innovative solutions to environment compliance and monitoring equipment.
+ Work closely with program leads and provides recommended actions to ensure environmental compliance and monitoring program execution.
+ Participate on the site spill response team and ability to be on-call.
+ Support data acquisition, analysis and be able to conduct all related environmental field sampling.
+ Analyze and report data in support of regulatory permits and other compliance activities.
+ Participate in the development of procedures and plans to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient implementation of environmental field monitoring activities.
+ Team with environmental Subject Mater Specialists (SMEs) to review environmental regulatory requirements to ensure that environmental field monitoring is being conducted properly.
+ Regularly use hand tools, power tools and environmental sampling equipment.
+ Challenge the status quo by questioning existing practices and recommending improved approaches.

Required:

+ High School Diploma plus up to four (4) or more years of experience in environmental field sampling, monitoring and compliance.
+ Within one (1) year of hire date, must be able to obtain the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) Environmental Sample Technician 1 Certification.
+ Experience and knowledge in environmental compliance and monitoring.
+ Experience in water, soil, air and vegetation sample collection, waste characterization, environmental release cleanup, preservation and analytical techniques.
+ Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion interface with internal and external customers and agencies.
+ Active DOE L-level security clearance, or other active security clearance (DOE-Q, SCI, DOD Secret, DOD Top Secret, other relevant US Government clearance).

Desired:

+ Ability to obtain and maintain professional certifications commensurate with responsibilities and assignments related to wastewater, safe drinking water and air quality.
+ Experience and applied technical knowledge in environmental compliance.
+ Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (40-hour OSHA)
+ Experienced with word processing, spreadsheet, and project management software.
+ Strong written and verbal skills.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
