We are seeking a hardworking and creative Engineering Support Technologist. As the research turbine technologist, you will fill a multi-role position located at the Scaled Wind Farm Technology (SWiFT) Facility in Lubbock, Texas. You will be a part of a team that utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to maintain and solve problems for wind turbine electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation systems. You will also perform modifications and tests on the turbines, and with components and test equipment inside the Facilitys support building.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Own responsibility for proactively identifying and addressing data quality issues in scientific data products, including development and implementation of tools for detecting and reporting data quality issues with support from data stakeholders.
+ Collaborate with team members to fix root-causes of data quality issues while supporting computer systems related to sensors, data acquisition, data transmission, data storage, and access of scientific data products.


+ Two-year degree in a technical field and 2-5 years of related experience or an equivalent level of experience in wind energy, aviation, aerospace, or other technical field;
+ Evidence of ability to understand and apply basic mathematical and statistical concepts;
+ Experience working on teams and collaborating with data-stakeholders with little direct supervision;
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.

+ Ability to read and understand written or verbal instructions, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications;
+ Awareness of engineering principles and basic technical responsibilities, including design and systems technology, within a designated discipline;
+ Knowledge of manufacturing, test, development and diagnostic equipment;
+ Knowledge of TQM, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and quality function deployment (QFD);
+ Advanced knowledge of and experience using SQL or other query-based language and maintaining databases;
+ Basic experience administering Microsoft Windows-based PCs and servers, knowledge of FTP and Windows file sharing. and experience solving software and IT-related issues;
+ Strong analytical skills and the ability to collect, organize, and analyze large amounts of information and assist with engineering analysis;
+ Strong written and oral communication skills;
+ Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions;
+ Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment;
+ Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions;
+ Assists in the design, construction, testing, and checkout of test equipment;
+ Uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized test apparatus;
+ Ability to summarize data in graphs, charts, and tables;
+ Proficiency in at least one computer programming language;
+ Experience acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting sensor data.

Department Description:

The Wind Energy Technologies Department performs research and development to improve performance, lower costs, and accelerate the deployment of wind technologies. This department is responsible for all aspects of wind turbine blade design, wake physics, system reliability, system integration, verification and validation of performance models, and model uncertainty quantification. For power systems research, the department conducts R&D in support of integrating wind energy into transmission and distribution grids, and microgrids through modeling and simulation activities. Department activities range from computer based design and analysis, lab testing of components, to full scale testing of wind blades at the SWiFT test site, near Lubbock, TX.
