You could be the Manager for the Load and Diagnostics Engineering Department in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center that we are looking for. You will lead mechanical engineers and designers in their delivery of complex experimental hardware, targets, and support components and concepts to the Z Machine, as well as many other programs.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Lead a high performing team of engineers, designers, and technologists in their delivery of complex pulsed power experimental load and target hardware to schedule, scope, and budget requirements.
+ Motivate, mentor, and develop the team to enable them to meet the challenges for the Center’s experimental and diagnostic development requirements and SNM containment development & operational needs, with engineered safety as the focus.
+ Collaborate with Group management and staff in the development and/or continuous improvement of the engineering and design processes with a focus on quality.

+ A Bachelor’s degree in relevant STEM field plus 10 years’ engineering-related experience, or equivalent combination of education and engineering-related experience.
+ Three years of proven leadership and/or management experience delivering complex engineering outcomes to scope/schedule/budget requirements.
+ The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance


Ideally, you will have the following:

+ Sandia National Laboratories Management experience
+ Project management experience with complex R&D projects with successful delivery in meeting customer needs (safety, scope, schedule, budget)
+ Experience with manufacturing of complex high precision components using traditional machining methods as well as advanced manufacturing processes such as diamond turning, additive manufacturing, and chemical machining
+ Experience working with multi-functional teams across organizational boundaries
+ Experience with advanced engineering tools including or equivalent to CREO, Windchill, ABAQUS, ANSYS, CTH, etc., with implementation experience
+ Experience with pulsed power accelerator technology
+ Experience leading complex R&D projects with accelerator level hazards

Department Description:

The Load & Diagnostic Engineering Department (01692) provides fundamental, advanced, and cutting-edge engineering to support the advanced science research and development programs in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. The department’s engineers, designers and technologists work together with the center’s scientists to deliver engineered solutions in the complex load and target hardware that enables execution of experiments on the Z machine and other experimental platforms in the Pulsed Power Sciences Center. The department uses CREO®, SolidWorks®, Windchill®, and ABAQUS® computer aided design and engineering analysis platforms in support of the Center’s programs.
