We are seeking an experienced technologist with an electrical background to support system engineering development activities for future Sandia programs. This person will interface to mechanical and electrical engineers on the system engineering team. This person will be located at our Livermore, CA site.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform electrical laboratory development work, such as soldering/PCB rework, board assembly, cable fabrication, continuity/isolation checks of cables/PCBs, use of common laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, etc.)
+ Some simple programming/scripting may be required. Knowledge of LabView is a plus.
+ Perform light mechanical work, such as assemble prototype electrical boxes, and work with other engineers to build prototype hardware.
+ Organize and track laboratory inventory, hardware, and testing performed on hardware.
+ Source mechanical and electrical sub-components and assemblies and work with vendors to deliver them.

Maintain laboratory safety cases, track training associated with laboratory work, and be responsible for maintaining a safe laboratory environment for 8425 laboratory spaces.


Requires high school diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline with at least two years relevant experience
+ Solid technical background with experience in one or more of the following areas: Knowledge of laboratory test and measurement equipment, LabView, C/C++, scripting languages such as Python, PCB layout, PCB debugging/rework/soldering, CAD design, mechanical drawings and layouts, strain measurement, accelerometers, prototype assemblies, and 3D printing.
+ Evidence of hands-on laboratory experience.
+ Evidence of the ability to contribute within team environments and in conjunction with diverse collaborators.
+ Background and understanding of nuclear weapons systems desired, but training in the organization to fill experience gaps is acceptable.
+ IPC Certified
+ Be comfortable with reading mechanical and electrical drawings

Department Description:

The Advanced and Exploratory Systems Department has responsibility to provide system-level leadership for advanced and exploratory activities across the Nuclear Security Enterprise. The department is currently pursuing numerous laboratory-wide activities to enable a more Agile, Affordable, and Assured Nuclear Weapons Stockpile. These activities include, but are not limited to, developing weapon system architectural designs, exploring system integration options for future missile systems, and developing physical and function demonstration test units for future systems as part of demonstrator programs, providing system context and future technologies needs to internal laboratory-wide research programs, and partnering with the broader Sandia community. In addition, the department is responsible for establishing and building internal and external partnerships with NNSA Federal Program Managers, Air Force program managers, Sandia nuclear weapons component organizations, the Sandia science & technology community, system analysis and strategic partnering groups, the Kansas City Plant National Security Campus (NSC), and many others. With its sister group in Sandia/NM, this department is responsible for the leading the overall direction of Sandia advanced and exploratory engineering efforts as it pertains to our future nuclear weapon deterrence.
