We are seeking an experienced R&D Electromechanical Technologist to join our diverse and expanding systems engineering team for the W80-4 warhead Life Extension Program. This large, well funded program offers a broad scope of roles and responsibilities for a hardworking Technologist who is looking for a rare challenge. In this growing, dynamic team, you may be performing a number of tasks to assist the system engineering team with the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, and assemblies.

Test Assemblies can be complex and contain a wide variety of hazards, including radioactive, pressurized, and/or explosive components. To ensure you are successful within this role, we will provide you with training on specific test or assembly equipment and will require additional ES&H courses so you can safely work with potentially hazardous items. In addition, our highly trained personnel will manage and control the security of classified equipment and components.

On any given day, depending on your specialization and interests, your responsibilities may include a few or all of the following tasks:

+ Conducting hands on system and sub-system level assemblies of W80-4 test articles to support overall system qualification
+ Developing and refining test plans, protocols, and procedures which are jointly developed following the corporate work planning and controls process
+ Participating in safety and readiness reviews
+ Operating test equipment

Required:

+ High school diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, established work planning processes, ES&H guidelines, and formal procedures
+ Experience with specialized tooling and material handling equipment such as cranes or forklifts, basic hand and power tools, as well as common electrical hazards and safeguards
+ Willingness to travel up to 25%
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Desired:

+ Associate's degree in an engineering/electrical field of study
+ Active DOE Q-level or DOD TS-level security clearance
+ Ability to collaborate within a team which has diverse areas of expertise, in a challenging, time driven work environment
+ Ability to take direction, effectively multitask, and take individual responsibility and ownership for work completed
+ Proven ability to handle test equipment, explosives, radioactive, or other hazardous material with proper training
+ Experience with nuclear weapons component design, testing, assembly, or manufacturing
+ Experience with Sandia ES&H documentation processes, including familiarity with updated Work Planning & Controls processes and Engineered Safety tenets

Department Description:

The W80-4 System Integration Departments are part of the Sandia/California Weapon Systems Engineering Center. The Weapon Systems Engineering Center is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. The W80-4 System Integration Departments are comprised of a group of dedicated and motivated engineers with advanced technical degrees, primarily in mechanical and electrical engineering. A major effort for this organization is the engineering design and development in support of a Life Extension Program for a nuclear warhead (W80-4). The W80-4 warhead will be deployed on the future U.S. Air Force Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile that will replace the existing Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM)/W80 Warhead weapon system in our nation's nuclear deterrent stockpile. This is a long term program that will require close collaboration with many different departments within Sandia as well as with organizations outside of Sandia such as LLNL, NNSA, Production Facilities, and the Department of Defense (DoD).

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
