The Weapons Subsystems 1 group is looking to add a new member to the team! We are seeking an Electrical Mixed Signal Engineer (R&D Electronics Engineering) to be a part of our multidisciplinary team in designing and developing advanced electronic subsystems.

This is a highly collaborative role with opportunities for growth and future additional responsibility. Some of the core responsibilities may include: negotiating requirements with Systems, flowing requirements down to the PRT, negotiating requirements among PRT design engineers, providing technical leadership to the PRT ensuring the technical basis is strong, driving quality into the component, maintaining overall technical responsibility for the execution of the component, collaborating with partner organizations to work through interfaces, partnering with the KCNSC PA team to address production challenges by the design implementation, providing field support, and supporting project management needs. The Electrical Mixed Signal Engineer will work cooperatively with representatives from other internal organizations (systems organizations, subcomponent organizations, quality assurance, program management, and production), as well as external production facilities and suppliers.

An Electrical Mixed Signal Engineer at Sandia:

+ Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team whose task will be to define requirements, create the subsystem design, implement quality design methodology, build and evaluate prototypes, test subsystems, and support full-up system integration testing
+ Negotiates requirements with Systems and partner organizations
+ Flows requirements to the team and negotiates internal design trades
+ Provides technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary team, including mentorship where needed, with decision making authority to down-select among potential design options
+ Drives quality and rigor into the component design process including ensuring independent peer reviews are conducted and actions are followed up on
+ Develops documentation of a given design and give technical presentations to peers/managers
+ Develops a system-level understanding of the collected data and support for anomaly resolution
+ Develop technical innovation to accelerate the design life cycle for high reliability components
+ Create strategic R&D roadmaps to inform division wide investments


+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study, plus five or more years of experience; or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study plus eleven or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment and work cooperatively with other internal organizations, as well as external production facilities and suppliers
+ Strong communication skills (especially technical writing skills), interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence others
+ Ability to obtain DOE Q level security clearance
+ Ability to travel up to 25%


+ Current DOE Q or DoD Top Secret clearance
+ Experience with Nuclear weapon component or Systems development processes
+ Experience with DoD high consequence program component development processes
+ Experience in low-power analog or digital circuit design and/or firmware design
+ Experience in FPGA design or low-power electronics design
+ Experience in integration and testing architecture/process to accelerate design processes
+ Experience working with SPICE and/or MATLAB simulation of electronic circuits
+ Hands-on experience testing and debugging circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/ spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators, etc.
+ Ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines
