Do you have real passion for Communications and are interested in joining an outstanding team? If so, you could be the highly motivated, upbeat, and professional Corporate Communications Specialist we are seeking to join our team!

You will develop, support, maintain, and improve a wide variety of digital products, tools, and processes; build and edit news and other web content, following best practices (plain language, section 508, etc.); maintain external and internal websites; and help develop, review, post, and monitor social media content. You will have a strong interest in and knowledge of communication principles, standards, and trends for print and digital formats, have experience in news and science writing and editing, and can synthesize complex scientific and technical subjects into compelling communications for diverse audiences.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Coordinate with writers, designers, photographers, videographers, and others to maintain and improve Sandias online presence through creative use of best practices, primarily through management of content for the labs external and internal websites.
+ Work closely with Sandias media relations staff to plan, craft, and evaluate communications that convey the mission, programs, and initiatives of the labs.
+ Develop and maintain communications products using basic HTML, CSS, and CMSs such as WordPress, Confluence, and SharePoint.
+ Assist with planning, developing, editing and disseminating employee messages in a variety of media.
+ Ability to gain certification as an emergency public information officer, which will entail completion of on-site training, shared on-call responsibilities and participation in occasional emergency drills and exercises.

Writing samples and a writing test may be requested for candidates selected for interviews.


+ Bachelors degree in a Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Humanities, Technical Writing, Business, Science, Engineering, or computing-related field, or degree in a technical field with a minimum of three (3) years' experience writing for a broad, public audience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.


+ Masters degree in a journalism, communications, public relations, English, humanities, technical writing, business, science, engineering, or computing-related field.
+ Highly developed interpersonal skills with proven track record to initiate and complete work independently and in collaboration with multiple levels of management and staff.
+ Social media monitoring and open source information gathering/analysis experience; experience with video editing and production, particularly for social media audiences.
+ Proficiency with gathering, interpreting and reporting on metrics for web and social media presences.
+ Proven experience with digital media including podcasts, video streaming and webcasting, and integrating those tactics into a broader critical communications plan.
+ Knowledge of Sandias programs, missions and technical accomplishments.
+ Excellent command of English grammar and spelling; excellent organizational and recordkeeping abilities.
+ Cross-disciplinary skills in developing communication products.
+ Proficiency/ knowledge working in WordPress, the Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications, Microsoft Word, or other content management systems.
+ Portfolio that provides written evidence of professional-level communications experience and abilities.

Department Description:

The Digital Communications Team in the Internal, Digital and Executive Communications Department is the focal point for communications to the public and employees through such products as the award-winning Sandia Lab News, Labs Accomplishments various public and internal web pages, social media channels, and other internal, external and executive digital and print publications. Our team members can serve as official Labs spokespersons, which includes interacting with or hosting visiting news media representatives from throughout the world, and as emergency public information officers. We develop and edit Lab News stories, news releases, media advisories, web and social media postings and other written products. We also provide communications planning, counseling and development services and technical writing and editing, document control and publications support services to Sandia's Mission Support divisions in such areas as Human Resources, Environment, Safety, Health, Security, Operations, Facilities, Infrastructure, Information Technology, Quality, Business and Finance and other support services.

Security Clearance:
