The Data Management team in Sandias HPC Development department is seeking a Computing Infrastructure Engineer to join a team supporting our data storage infrastructure to provide a reliable, archival environment for Sandias long-term data needs. You will work with a small team to support Sandias data transfer, storage, and tape systems and to test, evaluate, and deploy new storage technologies to address Sandias evolving data needs.

## On any given day, you may be asked to:

+ Deploy, maintain, upgrade and monitor an HPSS storage installation comprised of Linux core servers and mover subsystems.
+ Configure high performance disk file servers and tape robotic systems such as the Storage Tek/Sun/Oracle, and high performance tape drives.
+ Utilize kickstart to configure data mover systems
+ Research, analyze and recommend h/w and s/w to purchase
+ Collaborate with other teams/departments and labs
+ Utilize scripting skills
+ Some travel will be required
+ Accomplish most work in office conditions but some duties require access to computer rooms, which may present noise or climate conditions beyond the limits of a normal office space.


+ Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems Engineering or relevant STEM discipline or equivalent experience with achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties of the job.
+ At least two years experience managing Linux operating systems in a multi-user environment, including hardware and software setup, installation, upgrades, testing and troubleshooting
+ Familiarity with basic shell scripting
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a SCI security clearance


+ Knowledge of one or more storage systems hardware components (e.g. Spectra Logic or Oracle robotics, Oracle/IBM tape drives, NetApp RAID, Qlogic HBAs, direct-attach fiber).
+ Intermediate knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems
+ Experience troubleshooting and replacing hardware, including DIMMs, disks, network cables, etc
+ Scripting experience (Shell, Python, PERL, or any other system-level scripting)
+ Using a ticketing system, analyzing and resolving customer issues
+ Analyzing, quoting, recommending, and making h/w purchases
+ Creating and querying databases
+ Experience managing 25+ systems
+ Experience administrating windows and mac environments
+ Mentoring others and working in a team environment
+ Analyzing, improving and documenting processes
+ Current DOE Q Security Clearance
+ Current SCI Security Clearance

Department Description:

The High Performance Computing (HPC) Development Department supports and develops creative solutions for the operation and efficient utilization of leading and next-generation computing systems. The Data Management Team develops and deploys new solutions for high performance data transfer and archival storage for Sandia's large-scale data. The Heterogeneous Advanced Architecture testbed Platforms (HAAPs) represent small instances of the most currently available technology in computing so that code developers and computer science researchers can test and evaluate candidate advanced processors and accelerators. Our Advanced Technology Systems (ATS) testbeds enable porting of codes within Sandia's network environment in preparation to run production calculations on the extreme-scale ATS platforms sited at LANL and LLNL. The HPC Monitoring team develops monitoring, analysis, and response software and methodologies to enable new insights into the performance and utilization of the platforms and the applications running on them.

Security Clearance:

Position requires SCI access.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance and SCI access. SCI access may require a polygraph examination.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship.
