We are seeking an experienced Embedded Systems Engineer to deliver solutions for business areas across the labs. Our department efficiently and effectively plans, executes, and supports all phases of embedded system projects.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work with electrical, computer, and software engineers
+ Orchestrate and manage projects
+ Develop software
+ Develop tests and test plans
+ Work collaboratively with architects, developers, technical leads, customers, and end users to collect requirements, develop vision, design solutions, and deliver high quality and easy-to-use software applications.


+ Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or 8 years' equivalent professional experience
+ Ability to acquire and maintain both a DOE Q clearance and a SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph examination


+ Degree(s) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
+ Experience fielding end to end solutions and quick response projects
+ Experience as a developer, preferably in embedded C/C++
+ Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages
+ Experience with embedded operating systems, especially FreeRTOS and ThreadX.
+ Experience with programming microcontrollers, especially ARM Cortex M-based microcontrollers
+ Experience with low-power embedded systems, including using sleep modes and duty-cycling high-power peripherals
+ Experience with reading and understanding hardware schematics for the purposes of writing embedded software to target a given circuit board
+ Experience with Altium
+ Experience with Logic Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, Power Analyzers wirt to low power applications
+ Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, design and debugging skills
+ Experience in Agile development DevOps methodologies
+ Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery
+ Ability to prioritize, manage, and execute multiple projects within appropriate scope, budget, and timeframe
+ Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to identify creative solutions
+ Flexibility to work in a team setting or independently
+ Success in multi-functional teams to facilitate and drive integrated, multi-disciplinary solutions to complex operational problems
+ Experience building and maintaining diverse, teaming relationships at all levels
+ Excellent social, communication, prioritization, and organizational skills

Department Description:

Tailored Operational Support (5970) is part of the Systems Assessments and Research Center (5900), which conducts research, development, and engineering for the US Government. The group is involved in the program management and development of technologies as part of the Systems Assessment and Research Center at Sandia.

The Tailored Operational Support group is seeking a candidate to join our close-knit team of computer scientists and engineers who work on a diverse set of programs that range from small scale, rapid turn prototypes to high rigor systems that are deployed for long term use. In this environment, a successful candidate would be encouraged to have a wide range of skills, including programming across multiple platforms and knowledge of networking systems as well possessing strong communication and time management skills. Experience working with low power embedded systems is highly desirable for this position.

The selected candidate would be placed in one of the groups departments: Enabling Core Technologies (5973), Sensors & Embedded Systems (5974), Systems Technologies (5977) or Application Technologies (5979)

Security Clearance:
