Blount International, Inc. has an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Computer Aided Engineering Analyst within our R&D Team at our headquarters in Portland, Oregon.

BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION:

The successful candidate utilizes software simulation tools to increase the speed of product, process, and tooling development. Utilizing expertise in materials and manufacturing processes, this role also assists engineers in modifying and refining existing tools, designing and constructing new tools and recommending solutions to production problems and improvements in processes, tooling, or inspection methods.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: 

  • Simulation and optimization of tooling concepts, and test fixtures utilizing ANSYS and Adams CAE simulation tools
  • Collaborating with materials scientists to both simulate the forming of new materials and to suggest new material properties to achieve advancements in forming
  • Training and mentoring Product Engineers in the use of CAE tools
  • Assists tooling design engineers in designing and constructing new tooling, modifying and refining existing tooling
  • Developing simulations that correlate to field and lab testing conditions
  • Explore new techniques, create new designs, and resolve challenges associated with metal forming
  • Communicate technical concepts and information in non-technical, more easily understandable terms
  • Convey information clearly and effectively through both formal and informal documents and conversation
  • Create an atmosphere in which timely and high quality information flows smoothly between this role and others; encourage the open expression of ideas and opinions

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline required

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED: 

  • Mastery level competency utilizing ANSYS and Adams CAE simulation tools or other dynamic mechanical analysis tool set
  • Ten or more years of experience operating in manufacturing environment
  • Eight or more years of experience operating mechanical simulation software on a daily basis for dynamic modeling/simulation, fatigue and loading.  Demonstrated skills at an expert level
  • Proven ingenuity, craftsmanship, and judgment in the application of technical knowledge to simulations and modeling
  • Able to read and interpret complex design models and engineering drawings
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, and quality systems
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking and problem solving; actively seeks continuous improvement in processes and technical knowledge, using performance data for improvement in key areas of tool design
  • Proven decision making and effective team skills, able to work independently or collaboratively with teams that are globally dispersed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to present highly technical information to diverse audiences
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and motivate others and create a climate in which others want to do their best
  • Demonstrated flexibility and comfort with change management concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Available to work on site as required by the job; eligible and willing to travel occasionally, both domestically and internationally
