Department 5348 seeks a Build and Release Engineer to join our software development team and modernize our development and deployment environments\. We develop real time data processing software and firmware for small form factor Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) in support of a variety of ISR missions, and deploy into multiple R&D and operational platforms\. As the teams build and release engineer, your responsibilities will range from evolving and maintaining the teams existing development processes and tools, including our build and test infrastructure, to automating the configuration and updates of 5340s advanced radar systems\.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Deploy and configure Linux for development, testing, or deployment\.

+ Analyze processes and make improvements to increase individual and team productivity\.

+ Evaluate new technologies or tools for potential optimizations to various aspects of our software and systems\.

+ Work with vendors to acquire software and hardware, resolve defects, and provide support\.

+ Add more automation to our build and test infrastructure or improve existing elements\.

+ Perform vulnerability scans on existing system to ensure security requirements are maintained\.

+ Plan and perform software upgrades for various operating systems and tools\.

+ Elicit and collect hardware requirements for new processing systems\.


+ Requires bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus entry level experience \(up to two years\); or master's degree in relevant discipline\.

+ Expertise in system administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux: installation, configuration, Kickstart/Anaconda, creating RPMs, and creating/maintaining yum repos\.

+ Basic knowledge in system administration of Windows systems\.

+ Experience in virtualization technologies, such as VMWare\.

+ Expertise in the use of automation and configuration management software, such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible\.

+ Experience with various scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, Bash, and PowerShell\.

+ Experience with version control software, such as Subversion and git\.


+ Familiarity with issue tracking systems, such as TeamForge\.

+ Familiarity with OpenStack\.

+ Familiarity with VxWorks or real\-time Linux\.

+ Experience in containerization technologies, such as Docker\.

+ Experience with continuous integration software, such as Jenkins\.

+ An understanding of software development processes in an Agile environment\.

+ Familiarity with different programming languages and methodologies\.

+ Familiarity with application profiling and system performance tuning\.

+ Knowledge of unit testing frameworks, such as JUnit or CxxTest\.

+ Knowledge of white, gray, or black box testing techniques\.

+ Familiarity with vulnerability scanners, such as Nessus\.

+ Active DoD TS or DOE Q Security Clearance\.

+ A passion for looking at systems and finding ways to make them better\.

Department Description:

Sandia National Laboratories offers state\-of\-the\-art capability in the design and development of Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance \(ISR\) Systems, from system design through system integration to data collection and analysis\. As a multidisciplinary laboratory, Sandia applies world\-class expertise, such as high performance computer processing, semiconductor device physics, mechanical stress analysis, flight dynamics, motion measurement, etc\., to the difficult problems Synthetic Aperture Radar \(SAR\) and Ground Moving Target Indication \(GMTI\) systems may present\.

Department 5348, ISR Real\-Time Processing, develops and delivers highly advanced digital hardware and software solutions to meet the demands of embedded processing for advanced radar \(SAR/GMTI\) and other advanced RF system development activities\. Software development capabilities include: object\-oriented analysis and design, operating system development, configuration and setup, quality attribute driven design, model\-driven development, component\-based development in support of a software product line, automated testing, low\-level driver software for COTS and custom hardware, real\-time embedded software, concurrent software for multi\-core processors and GPUs, and GUI software\. Digital design capabilities and duties include: advanced digital signal processing \(analysis, simulation and implementation\), high speed ASIC and FPGA design, use of common digital interface architectures with embedded processors, high\-speed PCB design \(digital and mixed\-signal\), and VHDL design, simulation, implementation and test\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
