Assistant Professor Position of Industrial, Systems and Manufacturing Engineering

The College of Engineering at Wichita State University (WSU) is pleased to announce a search for a tenure-track faculty position in the Industrial, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering Department in any of the areas of advanced manufacturing, including additive manufacturing, robotics and automation systems, non-traditional processes, metrology and precision engineering. This position represents the growth and commitment to increasing the depth and diversity of our already strong faculty. Wichita State University recognizes that innovation is cultivated by inclusion and seeks to foster an environment of diversity in culture, thought and experience.

We are looking for candidates who embrace the excitement of creating new knowledge, and who are eager to participate in our experiential learning environment. Candidates should have the necessary background in advanced manufacturing in order to educate and advise undergraduate through PhD students, develop and teach lab-based courses, conduct basic and applied research, and develop industry relationships.

Why Wichita?

WSU, located in the Air Capital, has a proud history. The department's undergraduate and graduate (MS & PhD) programs are strong and play an important role in the city, region, and nation. Enrollment, along with academic and research capabilities, have grown steadily. The National Science Foundation recently ranked WSU fifth among all U.S. universities in aerospace research and development expenditures. Furthermore, the department and National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) are home to an outstanding collection of wind/water tunnel, aircraft icing, composites, structural testing, fatigue/fracture, flight mechanics, and computational laboratories.

WSU’s campus is an attractively landscaped architectural showplace with more than 16,000 students. Wichita, a thriving community of roughly 400,000 people, is home to aerospace leaders Textron Aviation (Cessna and Beechcraft), Bombardier Learjet, Airbus, and Spirit AeroSystems. The WSU Innovation Campus brings industry, students, and faculty together to collaborate in new buildings and laboratories.

WSU is committed to diversity and inclusion. A varied faculty, staff, and student composition leads to enhanced university growth, quality, and innovation. WSU is family-friendly. Available to all faculty are such things as – educational benefits for spouses and dependents, same-sex spouse benefits, and family leave. Very important for new faculty, there are also provisions to pause tenure review if they become a parent. WSU is a recipient of an NSF ADVANCE Catalyst award to assess and create avenues for women and minority STEM faculty to achieve their career goals.

Review of applications will begin February 17, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled. Target start date is as early as August 2020 and the latest start date is January 2021. To view the complete job description and apply, please visit https://jobs.wichita.edu/postings/17485
