Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

About the University:
Point Park University, a private coeducational institution located in downtown Pittsburgh, has an enrollment of approximately 4,000 full- and part-time students in more than 50 majors and concentrations. Founded in 1960 as Point Park College, it is known for providing its students with an experience that combines the liberal arts with career education. The University offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees through its four academic schools.

The Position:
The Department of Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technology at Point Park University invites applications from accomplished, versatile, and enthusiastic engineering practitioners for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level. This position will support a new bachelor of science program in mechanical engineering that is currently seeking first accreditation from ABET (www.abet.org). The successful candidate must be available to join the department for the fall 2020 term.

The successful candidate will possess demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively in oral, written, and digital forms. He or she must additionally possess the interpersonal skills to engage students from a variety of social and educational backgrounds in classroom and laboratory settings. Point Park University prides itself on maintaining small class sizes and close instructor-student contact throughout the curriculum, and all faculty are expected to support these values. A majority of the Mechanical Engineering courses are offered on evenings and Saturdays, so the successful candidate must be available to teach at these times.

Teaching responsibilities will comprise the breadth of the Mechanical Engineering course offerings, and opportunities to teach math or physics courses are likely to occasionally arise. Other responsibilities include advising students concerning career choices and academic matters, curriculum development, assessment activities, university-wide service and professional development.

Applicants must hold an earned doctoral degree in mechanical engineering or a closely-related area. High priority will be placed on candidates with industrial experience in addition to their college-level teaching experience. The successful candidate must be licensed as a professional engineer in at least one jurisdiction in the U.S.A. or Canada or be willing to pursue licensure in a timely manner after joining the faculty.

Application Procedure:
Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and at least three letters of recommendation to Dr. Gregg Johnson, Chair, Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Technology department. Electronic submission of materials in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.docx) form is required and should be sent to artsandsciences@pointpark.edu. Please note that the subject line of the email should state the position for which you are applying. Applications must be received by Friday, March 13, 2020. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE!
