Assistant Professor – Materials/Corrosion at the University of Akron – Tenure track joint position in the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

 

 

Requirements

This joint position is expected to contribute to the core teaching, mentoring, and research missions of both departments. In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent, externally-funded research program, teach core courses and develop new specialized courses, work collaboratively with diverse populations, supervise graduate research and contribute to departmental, college and university services. The candidate should have a doctorate degree in one of the following disciplines: materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or corrosion engineering. Background in modeling and simulation of materials degradation would be desired. Rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience. Expertise in at least one (preferable more than one) of the following areas: (1) mechanical behavior of materials: fatigue, fatigue corrosion, fracture mechanisms and fracture toughness, high temperature mechanical behavior, influence of composition/manufacturing on those properties, and/or stress corrosion cracking and (2) elevated temperature, environmentally assisted crack growth mechanical degradation of materials for metals and ceramics. Prior experience and a commitment to continue working with or teaching diverse groups and diverse students will be valued.
