ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN THERMAL-FLUIDS/MECHANICAL ENGINEERING - The Mechanical Engineering Department within the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA (Cal Poly) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of Thermal-Fluids. Preferred specializations include energy conversion and storage, computational fluid dynamics, computational heat transfer, advanced fluid applications, heat transfer applications, HVAC&R applications, or related areas of interest. The projected start date is September 12, 2019. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2018. Applications received after this date may be considered.

This is an opportunity for candidates who are passionate about undergraduate education to join a unique institution that values teaching and applied research activities. As part of its strategic initiatives in energy systems, heat transfer, and advanced fluid applications, the department seeks a faculty member to develop hands-on activities that foster deep learning and to create student-centered research opportunities. The position involves teaching foundational courses in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and/or fluid dynamics and upper division courses in applications of these topics. The selected candidate will also be expected to develop and teach new technical electives and/or graduate level courses within their area(s) of expertise. Additional responsibilities include advising students and participating in university service activities.

Academic Preparations: An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates in their terminal year of an accredited doctoral program will also be considered; the position is contingent on completion of the degree. 

Professional Qualifications: Candidates are expected to demonstrate a potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity with continued professional development in the general area of thermodynamics, heat transfer, or fluid dynamics.
