**Are you passionate about your work and dream of utilizing state-of-the-art facilities to explore solutions? Do you want to join a diverse team that solves challenging issues of national interest?**

We are seeking an exceptional postdoc to aid in the development of atomic-physics-based devices, namely optically pumped magnetometer (OPM)-based magnetoencephalography (MEG) systems and a microwave atomic clock. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Work with a team of physicists, engineers, and neuroscientists to design the next generation of the OPM sensors and to successfully advance the science of atomic sensing and timing technologies so they can be employed as practical devices by overcoming challenges in physics and engineering.
+ Support and contribute to the development of an OPM-based MEG system by building experimental apparatus, aligning optical systems, developing computer-based experimental control and data acquisition systems, collecting and analyzing experimental data, developing and implementing novel algorithms, and developing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
+ Support and advance the development of an atomic clock or other atomic sensor.
+ Work with staff to expand the biomedical capabilities of the Sandia National Laboratories in emerging areas such as optically pumped magnetometers, magnetoencephalography and other applications of OPMs.

Required:

+ A PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
+ Experience in more than one of the following areas: magnetoencephalography, atomic physics, optically pumped magnetometers (OPM), diode laser systems, optics, optical alignment, mechanical design, computer control of experiments, or electromagnetics.

Desired:

+ Track record of successful research and development in magnetoencephalography, atomic physics, and/or electromagnetics.
+ Experience with trapped ion, alkali hot-vapor, or cold-atom atomic physics experiments. Experience with laser and optical systems.
+ Experience with Solidworks, LabView, Zeemax, Mathematica, and Matlab.
+ Experience with data acquisition, signal processing, and data analysis.
+ Exemplary academic record.

Security Clearance:

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Furthermore, employees in New Mexico need to pass a U.S. Air Force background screen for access to Kirtland Air Force Base. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause access to be denied or terminated, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

If hired without a clearance and it subsequently becomes necessary to obtain and maintain one for the position, or you bid on positions that require a clearance, a pre-processing background review may be conducted prior to a required federal background investigation. Applicants for a DOE security clearance need to be U.S. citizens. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

EEO Statement:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
