We are seeking a R&D Computer Scientist/Software Engineer that would be responsible for deploying high-impact and high-consequence national security capabilities supporting surety applications. Your work will directly impact advanced technologies for weapon-related systems.

You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to the relentless pursuit of exceptional service in the national interest. On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Design and develop subsystems that manage the nation?s nuclear deterrent.
+ Develop code and unit tests
+ Partner with systems and hardware organizations
+ Learn crypto algorithms and database management.
+ Propose solutions to complex problems


99. Bachelor's and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in technical field (e.g. computer science, computer engineering, and software engineering related fields).
99. Some form of related experience is required (i.e.-internship).
99. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance with Sigma-15 caveat, and willingness to undergo random polygraph tests.


99. Experience with an Agile software development methodology.
99. Experience with Object Oriented Programming in C#, Java, or C++.
99. Experience in GUI development using the MVVM and/or MVC design patterns.
99. Experience with version control systems.
99. Experience with the Unified Modeling Language.
99. Experience writing multi-threaded applications.
99. Experience with unit testing (NUnit, VS Test, Junit, etc).
99. Experience in trusted software systems.
99. Familiarity with COMSEC and Controlled Cryptographic Information.
99. Basic understanding of complexity theory.
99. Basic understanding of functional programming.
99. Basic understanding of computer architecture.
99. Current and active DOE Q-level security clearance.

The Surety Software Department utilizes current and advanced software approaches, tools, and techniques in developing information assurance subsystems for Nuclear Weapons. These responsibilities span research, design, development, production liaison, and existing product evaluation for Use Control applications. Staff in this department develop custom software solutions in support of the DOE/DoD Use Control community and specialize in high assurance software design solutions with emphasis on security and reliability. The department specializes in complex embedded, application and GUI software, trusted processing, crypto algorithms, and database management.

The Department is responsible for design, development, fielding and support of subsystems that manage the Permissive Action Link (PAL) for the nation's nuclear deterrent.

Personnel play a key role in development, maturation, and deployment of advanced technologies for next-generation weapon systems.

The selected individual will be responsible for design and development of software products.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
