Faculty Position in Robotics

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida A&M and Florida State University College of Engineering invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the field of robotics. We are interested in candidates who have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: aerial robotics; agricultural robotics; aquatic robotics; haptics; machine learning; manipulation; modular or reconfigurable robotics; multi-robot coordination and planning; robot dynamics, control, and planning; soft robotics. Other areas of robotics will also be considered, particularly if they complement existing program strengths.

We seek an outstanding scholar who demonstrates, or has potential for: leadership in engineering research; success in educating postgraduate and undergraduate students; ability to secure available research funding; and aptitude in working collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries. The successful candidate will be a tenure track assistant or associate professor depending on the level of experience. Exceptionally experienced candidates may be considered for higher rank positions, including tenure. Appointments will be made at either Florida State University or Florida A&M University, depending on resources and preferences. It is possible that more than one person may be hired. The faculty member will teach mechanical engineering courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and conduct high quality sponsored research. A Ph.D. in engineering or a related field is required.

We expect that the candidate would join our existing Center for Intelligent Systems, Control, and Robotics (CISCOR, http://www.ciscor.org/), but outstanding opportunities exist for collaboration with a number of additional centers of excellence including: the High Performance Materials Institute (HPMI, http://hpmi.research.fsu.edu/), the Florida Center for Advanced Aero-Propulsion (FCAAP, http://www.fcaap.com/), and the Aerospace, Mechatronics and Energy Center (AME, http://ame.fsu.edu/). The college also has a major strategic initiative in “Helping the Impaired Musculoskeletal System” that is dependent on robotics (http://www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/research/report/).
