We are seeking a Science and Engineering (S&E) Project Manager to lead a high priority multi-million dollars per year SecDef directed effort. Frequent trips to meet with the customer, attend reviews and support testing will be required. The Science & Engineering (S&E) Project Manager plans and executes complex science and/or engineering projects that require high-rigor management. The S&E Project Manager exercises overall authority and accountability for the full range of project management responsibilities; leads cross functional teams of scientists and engineers, project management professionals, and business staff in a matrix-type organization; makes technical and programmatic decisions regarding the direction of a project and is held accountable for the results of those decisions.

The S&E Project Manager often serves as a primary interface to customers and sponsors and is the programmatic voice, especially for project status reporting purposes; accurately communicate the product?s functional and physical architecture, functional and physical interfaces, and its performance and qualification results; works with project personnel and partners with the extended project team, including customers, sponsors, and suppliers, to ensure that the project is fully and properly integrated, planned, and executed; develops, defines, and executes project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables. Produces project cost estimates and identifies other project resource needs; Identifies and addresses both technical and non-technical risks, opportunities, and other issues that impact the project; Recommends changes to improve engineering and project management processes.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Be responsible for building and executing a budget and building and maintaining a team, facilities, lab and computing resources necessary to meet program requirements.
+ Be responsible for all programmatics and systems engineering on the program to include building cost and schedule estimates and assessing risks and establishing and tracking status towards program goals.
+ Partner across Sandia, government and industry and work in a classified environment and working with the DoD, the IC and industry partners.
+ Build and lead technical teams, track and report status and track progress towards meeting customer defined goals and derivative objectives
+ Lead engineering and scientific technical teams to define technical requirements, define required analytic, hardware, and testing scope, methods and processes, and execute technical scope.
+ Review and edit technical content prior to delivery to the customer.
+ Provide quick-turn assessment of cost, schedule and technical risk impacts and defining those impacts for customer requested changes in technical scope, increases or decreases.
+ Utilize the scientific method to define a plan which addresses customer?s needs.
+ Lead all Engineering or Failure Review Boards as needed for Sandia National Laboratories contributions.
+ Attend and provide subject matter expert technical input and comment to customer design reviews of industry partner contributions .
+ Interface regularly and knowledgeably with the space acquisitions community.


+ Bachelor and advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Science or Engineering.
+ Two or more years of science & engineering Project Management experience.
+ 5 years experience working on/with space or rocket programs
+ Experience with DoD acquisitions, demonstrated either through experience or certification (E.G.:DAWIA (DAU) certification).
+ Active DOE Q, SCI, or DOD security clearance.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.


+ Advanced degree (MS or PhD) GPA >3.5.
+ 5 years project lead experience on effort >$2M/yr to include planning, budgeting, risk identification and management, tracking status and giving program briefings.
+ Experience working on classified programs.
+ Prior DoD or IC acquisitions experience as government or military member.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a SCI security clearance.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications.
