Technical Leader - PDU Transmission

Job Description: 

Assume leadership role in circuit breaker and gas insulated substations/lines research area – failure modes and degradation, evaluation of emerging and commercially available monitoring technologies, SF6 replacement technologies, root cause and forensic analysis etc.
- Lead team of in-house engineers, subject matter experts and outside contractors
- Present technical results and lead task force meetings
- Able to work with minimal direction and supervision
- Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal and presentation
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Work as team player as well as team leader.
- Maintain balanced research portfolio with high value short, medium and long term research tasks and deliverables

Requirements

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
 5 -7 or more years of research and development project and promotional experience required, including development of advanced concepts  for internal research or equivalent experience required. Prefer ten years of experience in high voltage testing, circuit  breaker/switchgear/gas insulated substation project development, design, manufacturing or maintenance is required. Advanced degree  (graduate, doctoral) in electrical engineering is a plus.

Ideal Candidate:

- Possesses strong technical expertise and has demonstrated extensive experience in areas of high voltage circuit breaker and gas  insulation substation (GIS) – design, testing, routine maintenance, root cause and forensic analysis
- Intimately familiar both with installed base as well as new and emerging circuit breakers and GIS technologies
- Experienced with high voltage testing; prior experience working for high voltage laboratory or original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
- Knowledgeable of industry standards and guidelines e.g. IEEE C37, CIGRE, IEC
• Strong technical and practical knowledge of high voltage circuit breakers, gas insulated substations and lines – design, testing,  maintenance, commissioning, repair and refurbishment.
• Strong knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and electrical systems
• Strong knowledge of testing medium and high voltage circuit breakers, gas insulated substations, switchgear and control systems
• Familiarity with technical studies – e.g. short circuit studies, EMTP analysis, overdutied circuit breaker assessments, fault and  disturbance analysis, root cause and failure investigations
• Have excellent interpersonal, written and presentation skills with the ability to communicate engineering subject matter to both  technical and non-technical audiences. Experience writing technical papers.

• Possess a strong desire to keep abreast of new equipment and techniques by reading appropriate journals, associating with professional  organizations, trade organizations, colleagues, equipment vendors, service companies, consultants, and government agencies, and  attending conferences, training courses and continuing education courses as appropriate.
• Have the inquisitiveness to learn about unfamiliar pieces of equipment and processes.
• Well connected and recognized within utility and vendor personnel community
