Position Description

 

Job Title:                              Tankless Product Development Engineer                                             

Department:                      Product Development, R&D

Reports To:                         Product Development Engineering Team Leader / Engineering Manager

FLSA Status:                       EXEMPT

SUMMARY

 

Responsible for design and development of tankless water heaters, including coordination of supporting activities and liaison with other stakeholders across the organization as required. Lead activities involved in the design, prototyping, testing, evaluation, documentation and release for production of tankless water heaters and related components.

 

Essential Functions(To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Work within cross-functional team serving as Tankless water heater technical expert and liaison  

  • Design tankless water heaters and related components. Lead Tankless water heater design project activities coordinating all phase of development, to meet established product, schedule and cost target requirements.

  • Prepare and coordinate design specification and production drawings for the tankless water heater designs

  • Work with suppliers on component selection and qualification.

  • Develop evaluation test plans and coordinate with designers and lab personnel on test set-up, data acquisition, interpretation of data and means for achieving desired test results

  • Investigate and troubleshoot Tankless Water Heater product design related problems and opportunities, documenting findings and performing corrective/improvement changes

  • Make theoretical and experimental investigations of designs and processes and formulate the basic method of approach to the solution of problems that are fundamentally of an indeterminate nature

  • Evaluate and design products to solve the development challenge and to meet cost and performance targets.

  • Assist with developing project schedules including all phases of product development.
  • Prepare progress reports to management covering all phases of the project as required.
  • Provide technical assistance to Product Management, Service, and Manufacturing as required for tankless water heater product lines.
  • Investigate pertinent factors such as interchangeability, service requirements, efficiency requirements and safety agency requirements.
  • Apply physical, chemical and mathematical concepts to solve design problems, and the creation of new designs.

 

  

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provide guidance and project leadership to Laboratory Technicians, Model Makers, Engineers and Design Services team members.

 

 

 

Requirements

Basic Qualifications (The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required and preferred for this position.)

 

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent

  • Minimum 3 years related experience with design and development of tankless water heaters.

  • Experience with product safety standards.

     

    Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge, experience and application of gas combustion principles
  • Working knowledge of design standards for water heaters (UL, ANSI)
  • Demonstrated stills in product design and project coordination/team leadership
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedures
  • Good communication skills (ability to speak before groups and/ or employees)
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills (ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations)

 

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Fluency in Japanese and English (understanding, speaking and writing)
  • Working knowledge of Pro-Engineer solid modeling software

  • Experience in water heater, HVAC, or cooking appliance designs
