UTC Climate, Controls & Security (CCS), a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Systems Model Based Development team within the Systems and Controls Engineering (SCE) organization.

The Systems Model Based Development Manager will work with global, cross disciplinary teams to develop and model based design and verification tools and methods to create the next generation of system solutions for a full range of equipment and systems for buildings and transport applications, including HVAC/R, security, fire, elevator and escalator systems. The Systems Model Based Development Manager will have the responsibility to define and execute the strategy to develop and deploy model based design workflows and technology platforms in the Systems area for CCS and Otis. More specifically, the individual in this role will:
  • Own the CCS and Otis Business Unit engagement and deployment plans for model based and technology platforms in the Systems Area.
  • Lead the execution and deliverable of WHQ technology programs and Business Unit deployment programs.
  • Establish and provide management supervision for the Systems Model Based Development WHQ technology team
  • Own and develop strategic external partnerships for technology development and program resourcing.
  • Own Engineering Standard Work, standard tools & libraries for systems model based development.
  • Provide strategic communication of roadmaps and program status to senior leadership (BU, WHQ, UTC) and external partners

Leadership and teamwork:
  • Grow and Lead a global SCE Systems Model Based Development team
  • Creating and maintaining updated roadmaps to develop and deploy solutions, methodologies and Standard Work for Systems Model Based Development opportunities. Communicating roadmaps and securing / maintaining alignment with engineering leadership. Leveraging existing and new technologies as appropriate.
  • Developing short-term and long-term strategies around use of systems model-based approaches, with goals aligned with the broader SCE organization, and towards enabling CCS and Otis product development processes to be BIC in the industry.
  • Being a change agent by driving Systems Model Based Development tools into BU processes through demonstration and training to ensure robust adoption.
Identifying new opportunities within CCS and Otis product development processes for system model based approaches that enable significant cost and/or schedule efficiencies.
Required technical skills/education:
- Knowledge of model based systems engineering and its application to industrial problems

- Experience in steady-state and dynamic modeling and numerical computations for large, nonlinear systems
- Domain knowledge in HVAC/R, Security, Fire, Elevator and Escalator systems
- Demonstrated analytical skills for systems architecture design experience
- Demonstrated use of model-based verification techniques

Desired leadership skills:
- Project management capabilities
- Proven deliverable of quality products (preferable use of tools/methods) to customer
- Proven ability to engage BU stakeholders to develop program content and manage deliverable expectations.
- Proven ability to communicate to senior management
- Experience leading high performance technical teams that are distributed across a global footprint.

Preferred technical skills/education:
- Postgraduate education plus demonstrated product development experience

This candidate must be highly motivated, organized, self-driven, able to function in a global team environment, and demonstrate problem solving and analytical thinking skills.

This position will be located in either Syracuse, NY or Farmington, CT.
BS in Systems Engineering, Mechanical or Control Systems Engineering major, with 15 plus years of experience

MS in Systems Engineering, Mechanical or Control Systems Engineering major, with 10 plus years of experience.

PhD in Systems Engineering, Mechanical or Control Systems Engineering major, with 5 plus years of experience.
