The Systems Mechanical Design organization within SDCI is looking for a Clearances and Gapping Sub-System IPT Leader (SSIPT Ldr) position responsible for the leading the radial and axial clearances & gapping across the entire engine. This position may support 1 or 2 of PW’s commercial and/or military applications. This role may eventually transition to a broader Systems Mechanical Design opportunity when this specific role’s (gapping) time commitment reduces. Broader Sys Mech Design roles include resolving design issues across the entire engine including multi CIPT or multi discipline issues. These include activities included in posting 41048BR

The SSIPT Leader is a new role that is a highly visible leadership opportunity within the Systems Engineering organization (SDCI in this case). The SSIPT Leader will be the single point of contact responsible for the sub-system to meet the all the associated technical milestones related to the sub-system (radial and axial clearances/gapping in this case). This position operates across a wide range of engineering disciplines (including CIPT’s), requiring excellent integration, organization, and communication skills.

Single point of contact (focal point) responsible for the sub-system schedules to meet sub-system technical milestones

Integrates team member activities for the sub-system

  • Integration meetings for communication
  • Subsystem-based decisions

Ensure all sub-system requirements are met on schedule

Manages financial (where req’d) & technical performance

Develop & manage schedules to meet technical milestones & deliverables (not hardware (CIPT responsibility))

Identifies needs/gaps in ESW at system and module levels that impact sub-system design: create sub-system ESW improvements and drive Mod Ctr ESW; defines alternative approaches.






Qualifications The successful candidate will have a minimum of 7-10 yrs experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Requires demonstrated leadership capability
- Mechanical design experience with clearances and gapping
- Schedules & requirements management

The successful candidate will demonstrate good leadership, communication and organization skills, as the role requires pulling together a team of individuals from other organizations & disciplines, and developing a close coordination across the many organizations within PW Engineering.


This position is a Systems Mechanical Design role, and would lead to a broader opportunity when this specific role’s time commitment reduces. Systems Mechanical Design role is to lead the technical direction of engine level design
  • Define the fundamental engine system architecture and then drives trade studies to optimize at the engine level
  • Drive engine level mechanical design items – engine static structure design, engine rotor structure design, secondary flow architecture, engine assembly & maintenance, clearance/gapping IPT, rotor balance IPT, create engine cross section
  • Review any impacts across the engine that impact the engine system mechanical design globally
Education BSME or Aerospace is required.
