The Naval Marine business is transforming its sourcing function to improve our cost base and enhance the commercial performance of Rolls-Royce and its customers. An interesting and challenging opportunity has arisen as Manufacturing Engineer – Purchasing where focus will be on castings and forgings category of components.


The Systems Design Engineer will work in the development of mechanical system and subsystem designs, associated design documentation, system and component test plans and procedures, and installation and commissioning plans for gas turbine modules (GTMs) in mechanical drive and electrical generator applications.


As a System Design Engineer, your key accountabilities will include:


  • Support and lead engineering analyses, development of technical specifications, selection of key system components, and creation of 3D/2D drawings and structural, piping, and assembly drawings.
  • Undertake system detailed design and development through gated reviews, evaluate compliance to customer requirements, support configuration management, and assist in factory and shipboard installation, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
  • Provide technical inputs for logistics analyses and technical support documentation and provide engineering technical support to customers, suppliers, and field service personnel.
  • Support proposal development, conduct tradeoff analyses, and develop engineering change proposals.
  • Analyze technical specifications and system requirements
  • Develop design concepts, interface requirements, and conduct engineering analyses
  • Prepare resource and cost estimates
  • Willingness to travel (domestically and internationally) on a scheduled and unscheduled basis.

Qualifications and experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Marine or Aerospace Engineering with 2+ years of engineering experience
  • Or Master's degree in Mechanical, Marine or Aerospace Engineering
  • Engineering experience in the area(s) of gas turbine, industrial or marine machinery accessory systems (such as fuel, lubrication, fire suppression, cooling water, ventilation, support structures, electrical, control, etc.).
  • In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must be eligible to obtain and maintain security clearance, which requires USA Citizenship



  • Passing of FE Test or PE preferred
  • Comfortable working periodically in an industrial, shipyard, or shipboard environment.
