Pratt & Whitney is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Structures Engineering Manager for the Fan, LPC Externals & Nacelles (FaLCEN) Module Center with demonstrated technical leadership skills as well as experience in managing a group of engineers. This position requires a strong background in dynamics, vibrations and fatigue & fracture mechanics structures analysis methods. Specific knowledge in stage vibrations, aeroelasticity and/or rotor lifing, engine external structures including ducts, mounts and accessories subject to maneuver and ultimate loads is an advantage.
As a FaLCEN Structures Manager, responsibilities will include planning and managing technical program tasks and milestones, manpower planning, employee development and performance assessments. Additionally, candidate will manage team to:

  • Perform a wide range of external structures analyses in support of commercial and military aircraft gas turbine engine programs.
  • Prescribe design requirements to help assure engine products meet customer requirements for vibration, durability and abnormal loading such as blade-off.
  • Prepare and deliver presentation materials to internal management and to airframe or government customers/regulators in formal design reviews and other settings.
  • Work directly with Design Integration, Engine Programs, Module Center and Engine Center personnel to assure externals requirements are understood and properly implemented in component designs.
  • Prescribe instrumentation requirements for test measurement of stresses, loads and vibration parameters.
  • Monitor engine testing, prepare assessments of test results, troubleshoot engine validation, production or field problems and recommend solutions.
  • Continuous development of externals structures Engineering Standard Work (ESW) design tools including content integrity and periodic Total Productive Maintenance, methodology and process improvements that enhance product quality and reduce product cost.
  • Address discipline proficiency and training requirements
  • Develop, manage & execute outsourcing strategy

Qualification:

Basic Qualifications:

A minimum of 10 years of Structures engineering experience with proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics, Ansys, and classical methods of analysis required. US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Fan/LPC and/or Externals Structures experience and automated design optimization skills is a plus. Candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A broad understanding of hardware, blueprints and manufacturing methods is expected. ACE skills are also essential to be successful in this role.


Education:
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related discipline
