UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is a global leader in the design and manufacture of a variety of aerospace products. Sensors & Integrated Systems (SIS) division, based in Burnsville, MN has an opportunity available for a Staff Engineer in Project Engineering.

Function Description

Applies scientific principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.

Discipline Description

Directs all phases of programs from inception through completion. Oversees and coordinates the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects within program guidelines. Liaises between project management and planning, project teams, and line management. Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract. Reviews project and budget status, manages schedules and prepares reports. Monitors and assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives. Represents UTC as the primary customer contact for projects. Directs the work of employees assigned on projects in technical manufacturing and administrative areas. Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test. Meets program schedules and budgets and maintains the integrated master schedules for project(s).

This position is located within our Engineering Quality and Sustainment. This group is responsible for Post-EIS Design engineering activities including; CIPL, Product-safety, VE/cost reduction, OSE, ECAB, and Field Support Engineering.

Additional position responsibilities -

This position would be responsible for working cross functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, and sometimes the customer to manage a portfolio of OSE projects aimed at improving product robustness and cost.

-Scope OSE projects for resource and risk planning
-Ensure execution of OSE projects to plan
-Update OSE metrics for Management Review
-Interface with customers to discover field and performance issues and to obtain customer approval of design changes
-Prepare and present project status
-Provide work direction to MSPS Administrator to maintain project plans in MSPS


Qualification: -Experience with aerospace engineering Qualification and NPI process
-Ability to work with and lead a team
-Strong communication skills across the organization
-Technical problem solving skills
-Microsoft Office competency
-Post-certification of filed experience a plus

Education: B.S. in a related engineering field from an accredited program
