Evaluate and develop non-metallic materials and processes with a focus on organic matrix composites, structural adhesives, elastomers and polymeric coatings for gas turbine engine applications.Candidate will interface with internal and external customers to define requirements, provide expert consultation, plan and execute test plans, analyze results, author technical papers and create/revise specifications.Additional assignments will include providing assistance in the transition of materials and processes to production and providing on-site manufacturing/processing expertise at supplier locations to help solve technical problems and support continuous improvement activities.Also, candidate will be expected to network within the industry to secure outside funding for projects.
Qualifications Minimum of 10+ years experience with aerospace composites and adhesives. Must be adept at problem solving and have solid analytical and observational skills. A self-starter with an exceptionally high level of motivation and independence, plus strong interpersonal, written, presentation and oral communication skills is desired. Candidate must function effectively in a manufacturing environment with people of a broad variety of skills and backgrounds. Required abilities include a broad knowledge of aerospace non-metallic materials and manufacturing methods. A fundamental understanding of polymer chemistry and the impact of chemistry and environment on material performance and durability is required. A network of industry contacts is required. Candidate must be willing to travel. Education MS in Materials Engineering or equivalent
